Title: Drones taking on new roles
Post by: DD1975 on May 06, 2013, 19:38:17 PM
With the X-47b due to start carrier trials are we starting to see the demise of piloted combat aircraft?

Thought you might Syber  ;D

It will be interesting to see what comes from this, the X-47B is only a test / demosntrator vehicle, I would love to see what the actaul designs for the combat drones would look like.

I'm sure it will Syber, I'm sure it will I wonder how long we will have to wait.....the aircraft companies must be working on the designs already if the X-47b is as far along as doing the carrier trials  :scratch-head:

While watching the post Snowy made about Troll Screen (http://www.datahopa.co.uk/forum/general-discussion/troll-screen/msg15779/?topicseen#new), I came across this:

Drone On: the Future of UAV Over the US (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwkxx84wXNo#ws)

Rather fascinating, I think. :D

It's about as stealthy as my backside, and considering how much weight I've put on since I quit smoking that isn't very stealthy at all!!!!!  :o

From a 'creeping death' smell point of view, you have a stealthy arse.  ;D

The Iranian one is ok for surveillance but what sort of payload could it have? A bunch of bangers? (the firework kind, not sausages, though the sausages would be more likely to kill people with food poisoning)

I think the x47b looks really sexy, in a deadly kind of stealthy way. I did read some of the comments. I really wonder why a liberal, hand wringing, green, lefty, anti-war idiot would be reading about a stealth drone anyway, let alone comment. At least they're alive to moan about war after millions of people died for so they have that choice. ** rant over emoticon **
