  I'd have to say I'm impressed by the car, nice range, nice looking.  Since I couldn't afford a VW when looking at cars many years ago I wonder.

You wouldn't regret getting an EV Carl, it's on another level to ICE cars.

The build quality looks really nice on the eGolf and like he said in the video the car just blends in, it looks like a normal Golf, it's just a lot cheaper to run and almost silent, it's the silence and smoothness of EV's that has to be experienced to be believed. 

There were a couple of things about the eGolf that seem to be a little behind other EV's:

The car isn't fitted as standard with a heat pump heater, he said it was an extra that was available, that basically means the standard heater will drain the battery more in cold weather. A heat pump can extend the range by 20% (he said in the video). The Leaf has a heat pump. 

Then there is the charging, he said that it can be charged at 16 amp from the mains supply or 40kW DC fast charge, I think that is a little behind others, my Leaf for example can be charged at 32 amp from the mains or 50kW DC fast charge. Considering it has a bigger battery than the Leaf it could take a while to charge at home.

I'm not knocking the car though, it does look like VW are finally starting to take EV's seriously.     

  We would normally be getting a lot of winter storms but for the past few years winters have been milder with much less snow, still pretty cold though so a good heater is necessary.  My car still runs without problems though so I'm not in a hurry. Big thing is that the mileage is acceptable but charging rate could be improved.
  The majority of cars in the US are still the big gas guzzlers and I don't think that will change soon enough.  Trump is probably driven around in something closer to a tank than a car.

I like the looks. Very like the PHEV version. At £30k new, I wonder where the price will be in 5 years.

Unless I win some money (not likely as I don't gamble) 5 years would be realistic.

Don't worry Snowy, you will get a used eGolf half price in 2 years time, get a free home charger from the government and pay for the car from the shed loads of cash you will save from not buying petrol

  Jaguar was a favorite of mine also, Had to stick with the American made cars though.

The only real problem with that, Carl, is that most classic American muscle cars are simply too heavy to make a truly useful EV out of. I think that the only exceptions would be the AC Cobra, or maybe pre-70's Corvettes. Even a classic Ford GT would be too heavy to be useful. Now maybe a reproduction, made from aluminum/carbon fiber would work, but then it's not the same, is it? Still, the thought of a 70 Super Bee EV is intriguing.

  The T birds were small sport cars at one time, there was a song about the fuel injected corvettes and T birds racing way back in the 60 - 70's.  By the time I was able to buy a T-bird it was big, a full size American car, took some of the fun out of it.

My first car was a 63 T-bird, and while it was a 2 door, it was still large and heavy. I took out the 390 under the hood and wedged in a Mercury 430CID engine with 3 2bbl carbs. The car was wicked fast, but took a LOOOONNNGG time to slow down because it was so heavy. And like so many silly children with more car than they could handle, I ended up wrapping it around a tree. but thank God for that tree, because it was the only thing that kept me from plummeting over a 350 foot cliff.

I totaled my first new car sliding on ice, my car bounced backwards and ended up in  a driveway.  I slid downwards but was perfectly okay, the other driver went to the hospital for whatever reason.  The car was totaled but insurance paid for it and I bought another one of the same thing.

EV's are really starting to take hold in China now, thanks to it's governments "incentives".

I think this is great news for the rest of the world, they do seem to be getting serious about pollution levels.

Way to go China
