While watching the vid my mind began thinking of have the car drive over magnets with coils in the car that will generate voltage while traveling over the magnets. I'll have to try that.

I don't see this tech as being one long continuous strip of charging plates on every road, but something along the lines of "charging zones" in high congestion areas along major highways (say, M25 around London, or the M1 and M4 and other highways headed out of/into London) may be a thing in about 5-10 years, especially if they were mated with transparent solar panels in a "dome", or "arch" configuration over these charging zones. the tech needs to evolve more in order to make it feasible, but I think it will come about at some point.

Yes I think you might be right Dave, if it happens it's going to be in some places and not others, putting the technology under every road will never happen.

I also think Snowy made a valid point, it does look like pretty expensive kit, someone would have to pay for it but who.

In the meantime E.on are going to install 10,000 rapid chargers in Europe by 2020, excellent news

I found a rather interesting website a couple of days ago that shows US energy production/consumption in a number of ways, including maps that show how energy (not just electricity, BTW) is produced, transported and consumed for the entire USA. It's put out by the US Energy Information Agency (a part of the the US Department of Energy), and the site is fascinating. I think that it's well worth having a look at. I wonder if the UK has a similar agency, and whether they have a similar website. It might be interesting to compare the two, don't you?

@Data, I'm not sure the relevance of that vid you shared. The windmills are pretty, but it doesn't really impart any information, and that tiny fragment of "Old Cape Cod" doesn't add much. Just sayin'.

I thought it spoke volumes to be honest, it's a chill out video, wind farms are coming online at quite a rate here in the UK, not to mention solar, wave, marine, hydro, in 2015, 2 years ago, renewable energy accounted for 25% of our energy needs.

Early next year our very own wind farm starts up, its going to power much of Sussex where I live, every wind farm that comes online makes an EV cleaner, EV's are clean because they don't pollute the towns and cities they drive in and they are getting cleaner all the time as more renewable energy comes online, EV owners don't have to do anything for that to happen, they can just chill out

Have to post this quality rant, I read the article (BS) in the Daily Mail before Robert made this video, I really don't know why some news outlets are so anti electric cars but it worries me that so many people actually believe the crap they spew out.

I'm not going to link to the "article". Instead here is the rant, it actually follows on from my previous post quite nicely too.   

  I didn't get much from his Rant, I came across the same type on thing on the internet.  It is much easier to take a class on some specific topic and get an approved textbook to read from, kind of like this is how we shall think.  Anyone can write on the internet, make a video or do a review and we have to decide what to do with the info.
  It seems Tesla has some new products planed for the future, I believed it would be called a tractor or the truck for moving freight or trailers and also a roadster.

  I just learned Tesla moved a big load of batteries to some island that was hit by a hurricane and had no electricity.  He seems to have so much work ahead of him but has time to help, I'm beginning to like him.  He still has Ford and Chevy in front of him and has to get past.

If I'm right, that "island" was Puerto Rico, which is STILL recovering from that hurricane a couple of months ago.

Yes that's the main point to the rant, power an EV on green energy and it's far cleaner than a petrol or diesel powered car, power it from dirty energy (coal) and it's still cleaner than petrol or diesel but the Daily Mail tried their best to twist the figures.

It's a huge fail on behalf of the Daily Mail but unfortunately people read it and some tend to believe it.

One other little fact that gets over looked is an EV's ability to generate its power as it's driven, for me about 1/4 to 1/3 of the cars electricity is generated by the cars regen system, that has to be the greenest and cleanest quarter of a tank of gas ever 

Took a screenshot from the video, the UK national grid have confirmed that more than 50% of our electricity in the summer of 2017 was low carbon, yes some encouraging information indeed and as we move into the future and more wind farms and other renewables come on-line things will get greener/cleaner.

GM batteries are arguably more capable and lower cost.
The Question that can't be answered is why can't GM put out a car as desirable as the Tesla Car?
