Nice to see they are using the Leaf,  Funny but I do remember seeing Electric vehicles being used by the city of Worcester a few years ago but haven't seen any lately.  I kind of wonder if the project failed.

Although I have a Hybrid (Prius), it is 9 + years old.

It (they) actually has TWO batteries. A very large bank of connected batteries behind the rear seat under the floor panel and a smaller one in the trunk (passenger side) that serves to start the car.

After 9+ years it died! Not knowing where to look or what was involved in changing it, good old YouTube to the rescue! Some reports of garages charging upwards of $100 to replace that battery + the cost of the battery itself!

I gathered myself and went to a really good place near me called Battery Warehouse! (believe me, they have batteries for watches, car fobs, alarm systems and diesel trucks!
Sure enough, they had a battery for my car in stock. The unfortunate thing was that it cost me $195.00 USD (with Military discount and taxes).

I got a few wrenches and within 15 minutes I had it done...completed. Exhaust gas hose, hold-down clamps and everything. Started right up, went for a nice test drive and to make sure it was charging and the rest, as they say, is history. Saved myself some coins from paying some stranger to "install" the battery.

It is more in knowing where to locate it and how to remove it (clip and bolt locations) and a dose of good old common sense.

My Prius made me a good deal of money over the years considering that I got paid mileage for driving my personal car from job site to job site. Some days I made really nice bucks.
The car got/gets between 45 to 68 mpg depending on my driving control and conditions. It has a 1.8 liter engine that comes on after the initial electric motor cuts out after driving maybe a hundred feet or so. It's a great car!
It is hard to believe that I actually got 9+ years of service from a car battery! That is pretty astounding to me!  :scratch-head:

Cheers!

Yes I agree Carl  :)

The amount of money they are saving too, it just makes sense to switch to electric.

@Art

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Hybrid, if I'm honest I am torn over Hybrid technology, they do still burn fossil fuels which isn't good but they can also extend the MPG which has to be a good thing.

I personally look at Hybrid as a stepping stone technology now, rather than a long term alternative. It's better than pure ICE

Maybe you will join me and Carl and go full EV for your next car, it's fantastic never having to go to a fuel station while saving plenty of our hard earned cash.

I sincerely do appreciate your brave posting of a Hybrid in the electric car thread  :)

Art

If you could be so kind as to move my post to the Hybrid car section it would be much appreciated.
:D

There may be some nasty things going on in the world but Fully Charged News seems to have a way of making me feel better.

Great video

Well it seems Detroit (a big car manufacturing Plant in the US) is shutting down because of the virus and this will probably affect Tesla also.  Tesla stock went high and is now going rapidly down as most stocks here are doing.

Speaking of Hybrid cars, check out this amazing car with only 3 cylinders but before you snicker, watch the video:

It's not bad but it only has 1700 HP and it runs on dead things.

Lotus will soon have a 2000 HP car that's fully electric.

That was great live video by Robert, lots of interesting facts, I particularly like the way he does the Jeremy Clarkson "in the world" quote still. Worth watching
