This boils down to labelling, if it's called a beef burger it should be beef and not horse meat then people can choose what they eat, just as I choose not to eat the corpses of dead animals in the first place, so it doesn't matter to me, but at least I have the choice. Tesco denied carnivores that choice and the carnivores don't like it, they think eating horses is bad but its fine to eat cows :scratch-head:
One time here in the UK the late Linda McCartney (as in Paul McCartney's wife) had a range of vegetarian pies, which I used to buy from time to time - I was a vegetarian for about 3 years... anyway as I was saying...one time it was found that they actually had real meat in them. Was it any wonder they tasted so good ? I'm not sure how this happened, it just stuck in my mind for years, but it goes to show they can bung anything in there despite the labelling.
Interesting, I did a google but can't find the story of Linda McCartney pies having meat in them.
It's better to make your own pies, like we do then you know what's in it, cheaper too :thumbsup:
Well this was way back when I was in university...late 80s early 90's.. so quite a while back.

During the early 60's a fast food place was shut down for allegedly selling horse burgers as hamburgers!!
Kind of a curious thing herre in the states anyhow. Hamburgers are NOT made from Ham / pigs but rather from BEEF / cows! So why not call them beefburgers? The only real hamburger I ever ate was a pork sausage patty with egg on a bun, but it was not called a porkburger...it was called a "breakfast sandwich"!! I think I'm going mad!
No, I do not eat goat, lamb, mutton, sheep or anything that I have to put mint jelly on to disguise the flavor!
Here we call them beefburgers and they are labelled that too.
Reminds me of Skinner and his boiled hams...terrible sound quality but only one I could find...

This one is quite simple Data, horses in the UK are thought of in the same way as dogs and cats...pets and it's darned difficult to eat something that you know used to be called fluffy!!
Cows are reared to be foodstock so they aren't named, same a commercial sheep and pigs so aren't thought of in the same way, the problem with horses are that quite a few that end up in the food chain (for foreign export) are former racehorses that you might have been betting on last week.......
Never heard of a horse called fluffy!
I do believe budget beefburgers have to contain at least 40% meat of which half has to be beef. the other 60% is grain/dirt/egg
I stick to steak and things that look like the animal they once were. The best ones are in the reduced to clear section anyway.

Snowy, et. al., the soybean product, Tofu, can be made to have the same appearance, texture and taste of practically ANY kind of meat / food product you desire. No extreme fat content, high in protein as most legumes are and (for you PITA lovers), no animals were harmed in the making of this product!! ;) :thumbsup:
Only the ninja warriors really knew what they were eating as they always cooked their own food themselves!!
