Just looking to see if it's any good. Anyone tried it ? I do already have a sub to a tv service via TalkTalk, but I hardly see anything I want to watch on the channels, things like Sky 1 & 2, alibi (ok some times), Discovery and loads of others that never seem to show anything I am interested in..
I found X-Files is available on Netflix so that would keep me amused for a couple of months.
Can't say I've tried it, it is another £5.99 a month outlay.
I'm happy with freeview, there is a lot of channels on there but the best bit is the 5 HD channels, there used to be 4 but they just added BBC3 in HD, perfect for Family Guy :)
Yep I am happy with Freeview, I watch those channels the most. I think I am going to cancel my other add on service and will maybe try Netflix for a free month and see how it goes.
You can download it through Amazon and I see there are over 300 reviews to browse through.

Good find
I'll download it and see what the choice is like.
What device were you thinking of running it through ?
Sony blue ray or one of these :
WD Media player (http://www.dabs.com/products/wd-tv-live-streaming-media-player-7R19.html?utm_source=retention%20email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email221013&utm_content=i800)
I tried it for a month and found I spent most of the time looking through the list thinking... seen it, seen it, don't want to watch it... etc.
If you haven't seen the big HBO and AMC series, then it's probably good. Films are available on sky first, then Netflix, then DVD.
HOB and AMC ? What is that Snowy ? I can't afford Sky movies.
I've used NetFlix for a couple of years now, and while they're ok, I am often disappointed by the lack of decent and/or recent movies in their offerings. If it were just me, I would have cancelled a long while ago, but it's a family account.
However, that said, I've never had a problem watching movies with the service, and for the price, the selection isn't all that bad (especially when it comes to older TV series, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Dead Like Me).
Well both Buffy and X-Files box sets are on my wishlist and the combined price would be about £120.00 so to me the Netfilx seems good, I can always cancel when I am out of options as I don't think it has a contract.
So I went looking for other options other than that media player at £60.00 glad I did too because I found this on Amazon :
Sony BDPS4100 Smart 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-BDPS4100-Smart-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B00AZVJ1KY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)
So for another fifteen quid I get a blue ray player too which will do the Netflix stuff too. Seems a good bit of kit from what I can see from reviews. WhatHiFi gave it a glowing 5 star review :

...and most of the reviews on Amazon are positive and look genuine. There were a couple of negative comments about the wifi, but I won't be using that.
Data, I will buy via the link I just posted here above so you should get a cut mate
All bought, keep an eye out to see if you get your cut Mr Data
That should help to keep the site funded for another year, great idea Freddy
Thanks mate :)
My Dad has a Sony BD home theatre thing, must be a couple of years old now, It's still working and works well too. Don't think you can really go wrong there. 8)

HBO does things like 'The Wire' and 'Boardwalk Empire'
AMC does things like 'Breaking Bad'
OK thanks Snowy
It arrived yesterday but I was tired out so didn't play with it until today. It's really good !
There's a lot of stuff it can do, so far I got streaming from my PC to work, so pictures look great on the big screen and music plays fine after a bit of tinkering - though I need a better speaker system than the ones built into the telly.
Netflix worked really easily and I was pleasantly surprised by the choice, yes there's a lot of old series, but there's quite a lot I would like to see again (Buffy, Dr. Who) or watch the ones I missed. It's a better choice than what I had with the Sky bundle from TalkTalk. Sky 1 & 2 just don't seem that good to me and Discovery has gone downhill....
One of the best things so far is the YouTube player. I had a Sony DB player two or three years back and at that time it was pretty basic and fiddly. Now it's really good and easy to use, plus it plays everything in my favourites full screen and at the highest definition. Previously I believe there were some restrictions on what you could play back, but now it seems like you can watch everything you could via the PC.
There was some guy called Ronsuperjet and his videos looked great on the big screen. Not sure who that could be ;)
So yeah for what I paid it's really good value and of course it will play Bluerays and I think it upscales DVD... what a bargain ! Now I just need some new speakers
