Dave you are close, late 60's iconic British artist, I'm sure everyone here knows the tune. 

It doesn't seem like anyone is going to get this one, which surprises me.

Sorry, mate. That song doesn't seem to have made it over the pond, as I've never heard it before. From the sound of it, this is a song I would have latched onto  in my younger days.

I remember David Bowie but don't recall  hearing that song.

Yes the Supremes were a class act, very much something I grew up with as M&D used to play their songs 

I had forgotten that Phil Collins version was a cover, listened to both, I like the gentleness of the original better, I think.

  Since I always liked Phil I'd have to say I like both versions of the song about equally well.  I found it interesting both dressed like the were dressing for a show rather than wearing ripped jeans.
