I think, possibly, this lyric is from a song that is one of my all time favourites. From the early 80's. The band were part of the New Romantic scene. Could it possibly be this,

Modified about a dozen times but got it in the end. I just hope I'm right after all that effort. :D
It WILL be fine !...

Data

Yeah that’s the one, Ultravox Vienna, Snowy and me saw them perform it live at the Brighton Centre, years back now. Had all their albums and still have lots of their mp3’s in my collection.

Snowcrash

I don't think I would've got that from the lyric.

Never been my fav song of theirs but good none the less.
"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Another from the early 80's.

                                                               The first picture of you.

Again, enjoy. :)
It WILL be fine !...

Snowcrash

I assume you mean this one by the Lotus Eaters.

Come on Diesel, you've used the title of the track.

"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me."

I know, but sometimes the best place to hide something is in the wide open. Clearly not this time. :'(

I did google it for the band name which didn't come to mind but I could hear the song in me head.

So, how about this one...

                              Now I'm fully grown,
And I know where it's at,

Late song from this band, early 90s.
"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Snowcrash

No takers?

                       Somehow I stayed thin,
While the other guys got fat.

Are the next lines. With an extra clue of...
Is this band the opposite of good?
"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The opposite of good is bad so it must be

Big Audio Dynamite - Rush

I feel that again Snowcrash has come up with a song that only a few might know, saying that the lead singer is Mick Jones formally from the The Clash.

There were plenty of video to choose from so I went for one that had the lyrics in.

Snowcrash

If you don't know B.A.D. then shame on you. They've done some great songs like E=MC². That ² key comes in really handy  :) and many others.

And technically this is B.A.D. II with a different line up.
"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me."

So... Is this a private party? Or can anyone join in? :)

And on a level between 1 and 10, how obscure can I get (provided it's cool to join in, that is)?

Officially   Its my go but jump in there Dave, give us some lyrics if you like.

Hmm, as obscure as level 5 should be ok  ;D, but if its too hard we will probably end up cheating.

As I'm not yet familiar with all of the rules, and as I also have yet to go through every post in this thread, I think I'll defer to you at this time. It is, after all, your turn. :)

[edit] Ok, I've read through all ELEVEN pages, and amazed myself that I only got around 10% of the songs right off. Of course, the British bands that didn't get famous across the pond were impossible for me, but that's to be expected. I personally would have used the lyrics from Roller Girl for my Dire Straits song, since Sultans of Swing was so popular, and RG wasn't quite as... But that's just me. I've got lots of ideas, most of which are 6-7 on the obscurity scale, so I'll have to put on my thinking cap, and try to come up with something that's either easier, or (more likely) at least interesting enough to be worth the extra difficulty. :) [/edit]

Been looking through all the pages of this thread and noticed something, I posted Ultravox Vienna twice  :booboo:, page 5 and page 11, so in six months time...

Here's another one of my favourites, American band well known in the UK.

Water dissolving...and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Carry the water at the bottom of the ocean
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!
