This band is definitely 'Brit Pop' but I'm sure they made it over the pond.

And all I wanna hear is the message beep.
My dreams, they've got to kiss, because I don't get sleep, no..

"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

DaveMorton

Well, I couldn't answer that one without cheating, so I will only submit that I've never heard of the group. :(

                      Windmill, Windmill for the land.
                      Turn forever hand in hand.

Are the next lines. There was I thinking this one would be easy.

Well, you said "no cheating", and I can't post an answer without doing so (I peeked), so...

Still no takers. Googling is now allowed

Band: Gorrillaz
Title: Feel Good Inc.

This is a good indication that I need to expand my musical acumen. :)

A quick question:

Are "cover songs" allowed? or how about lyric re-writes?

Data

Firstly you should have posted the video to the song, Dave, tut tut  ;D

I think that's half the point of this thread, the videos, which reminds me, when its my turn I make sure I pick a song that I can find a video of, on YouTube.

Wont a cover be the same lyrics? In which case there might be 2 correct answers, that sounds ok to me, more chance of getting it right. ;)

Im not sure what you mean by lyric re-writes, but its your go, so hit us with a hit  8)

DaveMorton

My bad. That's what I get for using the "Quick Reply" space, below. Just too lazy for my own good, sometimes. :( I shall endeavor to improve.

Ok, here's what I mean by a "lyric re-write (think Weird AL here, in general, but not specifically)

Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing

I tried to make that one fairly easy.

I think I have heard the first two lines of the song, but... <insert scratch head here /> :scratch-head:

Still thinking, it might come to me.

Diesel

Took a bit of head scratching this one, but I finally got it and I swear I didn't cheat.

The Clash, Rock the Casbah.

Like Data, I'm not quite sure what "lyric re-write" means. I thought it pertained to a song where the lyrics had been changed such as Elton Johns' Candle in the Wind. Would this be correct Dave?. :scratch-head:
It WILL be fine !...

Diesel

I've had a bit of a think about my next one and have decided to move back to the 70's.

I could stay home every night
                                                      Wait around for Mister Right.

Depending on your age, but I think this is fairly easy. :D

No cheating now!!!.
It WILL be fine !...

DaveMorton

@Diesel: Right song, wrong lyrics and wrong artist. Close, though. For the artist, think courageous monarch and English fromage.

[edit]Oh, CRAP! I copied the wrong verse, and that one is identical to the original! ACK! :o

Diesel

Please disregard my post as clearly I got it wrong(ish). Courageous Monarch and English Fromage?. :scratch-head:

Arthur Cheddar, doesn't ring any bell's with me. :D
It WILL be fine !...

Think crusades, not Round Table, and translation, not type. And I just looked over the 2 websites that listed the lyrics I was researching, and the only difference there actually is is the chorus (the verses were out of order, and I must not have been paying attention). So my bad. I'll do better next time. :)

Interestingly enough, I'm finding two versions of the lyrics for the Clash, too, that indicate different choruses. Stranger and stranger.

Diesel, I'm going to call that a "win" for you, since I messed up. But here's the song I was looking for:
