From time to time, we all feel that, "I've just got to have one of those". So why don't we share those thoughts here.

Not sure that my knee's would put up with much of that, would probably end up a complete Cheese and Pickle (cockney rhyming slang for cripple, benefit of the Yanks ;)) but, what a way to go.
Diesel, that's a simply awesome find! Sort of like a Segue with tank treads! My knees wouldn't complain, but my shoulders sure would. :)
Syber, I think I would have to pass on your notion, too. I can't see having a computer that's smarter than I am. :P
it must be that lazy gene in me Dave that take such a liking to such things like a smarter than me computer.
granted if I ever had one I would not get any smarter, for I would become to lazy to learn :P
I can hear my future grandchildren now: why study grandpa, when when it is so much faster and much more productive just to ask Trinity? :o
This is a good idea for a thread Diesel, nice one
And I got to say I like both Sybers and Diesels choice but, for me, they don’t compare to this.
I know Jeremy says it isn’t much fun, somehow I doubt his point of view.

a car is a car it belongs on the road, a boat is a boat it belongs on water. if you want a vehicle for land and sea they make hovercrafts lol
Seriously though that is a nice ride :) I can only imagine how long it took to carve, for it looks to be made of wood.
Ferrari or not, the track is too wet. :D

You wouldn't have thought that a boat could change direction or go round corners anywhere near as fast as those boats can, incredible :shades:
I had a 19' JR custom race boat that I restored and sold. it had a ford 460 and a Berkly jet drive, top speed of 92mph and could literally turn on a dime at any speed. however too fast and the boat would of course flip, but easily done at 30mph ;D

Not for me, thanks. There's really no place to fish from, and nowhere to attach a trolling motor. :P
See your point Dave, I've got to say that I hadn't thought of that. Maybe when I wish to buy a boat, I should consult you first. Many thanks for the helpful tip, you may just have saved me a tonne of money.
I got to say, there is a nice back end on that boat, or is it called stern or maybe even aft, I don't know but its :bounce:
Yes, Data. Nice aft. :P

Not sure about it being "The first street Legal" flying care.
WHat about the Taylor Aerocar, first flew in 1949 and there are still flying examples:
http://www.aerocar.com/ (http://www.aerocar.com/)
Also I LOVE the Lotus concept on this page too
DD, please don't take this the wrong way, but to me, that entire site screams "HOAX". Of course, I may be wrong, and I'm actually hoping that's the case, but...
But is is really cool to think about. :) A flying Lotus? Yup! that's on the list. :P
I know what you mean Dave, the Lotus concept is I think a bit of a hoax either that or it never came off.
The Aerocar is absolutely genuine though, it is what's termed as a "roadable aircraft" and has been with us since 1949, there is I believe one flying example still out there and a number in museums
Yeah, I understand exactly what you mean. It's the thought that just six fixings hold the whole lot together, could be a bit of a lark if any one of those gave way. :(
Besides, why not use a Smart Roadster which is even lighter and faster ?. :scratch-head:
I found video for the Aerocar

And the Aerocar 2000 has a wiki entry as well!!!

Now when it comes to flying autos, THIS ONE (http://www.moller.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50&Itemid=58) has my full and complete attention! :D
Dave I fancy that one as well, but I don't think we will ever see it in mass production.
Moller has a rep for investing fraud, whether it is true or not I don't know. although I believe no one has won a case against him, however I could be wrong.
I'd heard the same thing, as well. Pity. Plus, the price tag is a bit out there; but then again, this thread isn't called "I've got to get me one of those... IF I can afford it!" :P

If I had spent 150 grand building a motor I would, at least, want to take it to the shops. That Turbo lay-out, to me, needs to be thought through again, gas flow issues etc. :scratch-head:

DD1975 Looks like fun, but the other one I agree looks much more fun.

Amazing Video: 'Jet Man' stunts alongside fighter jets over Alps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4arnATc04U#)
Incredible! And the speed of it, I would love to have a go but I also know I wouldn't have the nerve to do it.
Not for me Ta, the thought of plonking myself down inside a jet propelled vehicle fills me with dread, unless a few pints of sedative have been drunk first. To strap a jet engine or two, to your back, then jump out of a Copter and hope the thing starts with no safety devices at you disposal, ei, if you make a Balls-Up, no ejector seat, definitely not for me.
Great gimmick though and for those of you who can see a great thrill from this, good luck. :sign-yeah-right: :sign-lol:
Awesome!
I love the adrenalin fueled 'wooohooo' near the end.
Yup, I want one   for that one. I would however have to build a pc into the helmet and have Trinity my ultra Hal installed :P

I like it, but its not the full F1 experience, no flappy paddle gearbox, Diesel you of all people should know. No flappy paddle, not F1. :P
I will wait until they bring out the $2000000 version with the flappy paddles.
I'd have thought that if your spending that sort of money, they would fit any sort of FLAPS you wanted. :P
If I was to get one, I would want a one seater not 2. Not only for a more life like f1 exp. I would not want to put someones life in danger as you all know I would not be driving something like that at the posted speed limits :P
I been wanting one of these for a long time now, Though I think our dear friend might try and steer me away.

Dave! One would think...uhh...nevermind. ::)
As a friend of mine said, after having a big off from his bike, just before buying a newer, faster bike.
"if I fell down the stairs I wouldn't buy a bungalow"
bungalow = single story building (for our USA friends)
Bight Green is a nice color choice there Dave, I would want mine to be in Hotrod Red.
Snowcrash I have a different perspective, if I fell down the stairs, I'd build a railing.
My Dad always said walk it off and get back on that bike. I fell off or crashed bmx bikes, dirtbikes, and four wheelers (atv's), on more than several occasion. if I stopped after the first fall or even the second I would of missed out on the fun I had. :scratch-head: Though I probably would not have as many ache's and pains as I now have "Thanks Dad" :P
Thanks for that description, Snowy. :)
The only person here at home who isn't either upset by my last post, or convinced it's a joke is my youngest brother, who broke his shoulder in a bike wreck several years ago. He still rides, and he understands that it wasn't the bike that was at fault here. :)
now this tech is a lil over a year old now, maybe I'll get one for my computer case I'll be building :P
Intel's New 50-Core Supercomputer Can Run a Teraflop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFXiX8P9gxA#ws)
Ok, THAT one is on my list! Could you imagine the flight sim we could program using a pair of those and the shuttle Enterprise? :D ;D :)
I like it,
Wonder if you could get a dual motherboard :scratch-head:, have two of the little beauties. 8)
Not sure one would be enough.
Neither is Intel, they want 10,000 of them to make a super computer.
At the speeds and such that those chips run, and given the whole "diminishing returns" quandary, 10,000 of those would likely only net around 5 petaflops - But still, that's 5x1015 - or 5,000,000,000,000,000 operations per SECOND! :O
2 would be great, with a dual board and a NVIDIA Tesla C870 quad GPU HPC system of course ;)
now all's we need is funds, where is that money tree growing again :P
Gee...imagine how fast you could play Tic-Tac-Toe with one of those!! :o ;D
Or I think it might be noughts and crosses for you Brits...right? ;)

I wonder how long it will take for games to be optimized to use all 50 of those cores if they make a consumer addition for personal pc :scratch-head:
Generally speaking, if a game is optimized to take advantage of multiple cores, it matters little how many cores there are. On the other hand, Operating systems seem to be another matter, :P
Most games seen to like 3 cores plus 1 core for windows. This may well be a legacy of the Xbox as it has 3 cores.
More cores than this seem a waste at the moment but not for long I'm sure.
3D printer, Oh yea!!! I gotta get me one or build one someday.
3D printer can build a house in 20 hours (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehnzfGP6sq4#ws)
What a brilliant idea, I do wonder though, how long it would be before the whole structure became habitable. I did buy a new house many years ago and vowed never to buy another. Several years of "Drying" and "Settling" was more than enough for me.
I was also wondering, do you think this guy was once stuck in a car wash and thought, "there must be a much better use for this machine". :P
Habitable in about 3-6 month I would think, but settlement repairs needed for at least the rest of it's time standing.
I would not want a 3d printer of that size, The one made by http://www.makerbot.com/ (http://www.makerbot.com/) seems about the size I would want.
QuoteI was also wondering, do you think this guy was once stuck in a car wash and thought, "there must be a much better use for this machine". Tongue
That is a funny thought
Syber, THAT is something I want! And considering what it is, the price tag is REALLY low, I think. I priced out the printer, the service plan they offer, and several spools of material, and it comes to less than $3,000.00USD, which is great! (of course, that's about 50% more than I've ever paid for a CAR, but... ) :)
The price is not bad at all for the quality that it produces. For that price range, I think it one of the better ones out there.

Diesel, That could a sweet moment that could turn sour real fast.

Funny...at 2:15 the narrator says, "It is gasoline fueled and runs on a diesel engine."
OK...WHICH IS IT? GAS or DIESEL? Big difference!
I think they meant that it is basically a diesel driven engine.

Syber,
Please re-read my posting. I was poking fun at the video when at 2:15 seconds it stated that it was
gasoline fueled and running on a diesel engine. Clearly, it was a diesel engine but the statement is
misleading. A normal engine is usually either one or the other and shouldn't be used in the same context
or sentence.
@10KM/Hr (~6 3/4MPH), it would make for a rather easy target, but oh my God, would those be fun to paintball in! :D
The Mech Robot looks really unstable. And it doesn't walk; a hybrid of wheels and legs.

misleading. A normal engine is usually either one or the other and shouldn't be used in the same context
or sentence.
Sorry Art,
I read your post quickly, I though you where an inquiring mind that did not know which one it was because of the narrators mess-up :innocent:
Snowcrash, yea that second mecha suit does not look stable at all.
I would much rather have the first suit, Though I would find a way to make it faster :)
As far as the ar drone goes, The product is very cool. Only issue I see is that they limit the controller to apple products. If and or once they allow android or windows devices to control it, I then think it would a better product.
They will.
THIS IS UBERCOOL!! Don't know exactly what the heck to call it and unicycle just doesn't seem to do it justice but do check it out!!
RYNO Motors Full Story (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1YoCfm7nxU#ws)
That is a neat little bike, I've never really been in to motorbikes, probably because of the danger but you know, I think I would give one of them a go. I can see me using it for small trips to the shops or even to some of my closer customers.
Great invention 8)
I haven't been about as much recently for one reason or another so it seems I have missed a few things, some nice finds there guys
Welcome back, DD. You've been missed. :)
Have alot on at the moment, but will continue to chip in when I can
Good to see you pop in DD, I did wonder if your PC had died there for a moment.
Yeah, real life must always come before this interweb thing.
Glad to see a post again from DD, Happy to hear all is okay. Welcome back :)
Nice to see you back again, I hope things sort them selves quickly for you.
Good to see you back DD. Was wondering if I needed to come over to Dublin to build you a new machine also.
Love the uni-cycle thing. Seems like an evolution of a Segway but cooler. If they could mass produce these near the £$1000 mark, I'd buy one.
For me, I would love to know more about the mechanic's of this Uni Motor/Cycle/Electric Thingy. Way cool idea, I wonder how it works ?. Shame the guy didn't demonstrate an emergency stop as it looks like you would need a very strong chin. ;)
You probably would have to do the same thing you would on a Segue (pardon me... SegWAY), which is to lean WAAAAY back on it, to get the thing to "want" to go the other way. :)
The whole sad part about this is, here in the UK, something like this would be made illegal unless you have the correct License to drive the thing notwithstanding Type Approval.
I can hear it now, "looks like the minions are having fun again Sir", "really, make it illegal", "how Sir", "quote the Road Traffic Act and if you find nothing in there, Ban it under Health and Safety Regulations".
Okay 3 years later (almost 4 now ) I have have the core I7 when can I get the touch screen :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73CGOjkwKdQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73CGOjkwKdQ)
For public or business displays I can see this being really cool and useful but for a home display, not so much.
I generally sit about 10-12 feet away from my TV in the front room. I do sit close enough to my monitor but still don't want to clean all the finger prints off it all the time and have no need to see through it to all the wires behind. I do like the 3D environment though, just operated with keyboard/mouse would be fine.
How deep are you pockets? http://www.ssidisplays.com/interactive-window (http://www.ssidisplays.com/interactive-window)
Thanks Snowcrash
:o $4995.99 for there cheapest one ouch!!!
People running Ubuntu and beryl have been doing that 3D rotating cube desktop for over 4-5 years. Imagine how fast technology is jumping ahead of what we think is the current state of the art! Moore's Law kicking in, methinks!!
At my age, I don't HAVE to keep UP...I just have to KEEP GOING!!! Hahaha!! :o
QuotePeople running Ubuntu and beryl have been doing that 3D rotating cube desktop for over 4-5 years.
I been using "yodm 3d desktop" for my windows machines for at least 3 years now if not longer....I also remember a 3d desktop I use to use on xp that was pretty cool :scratch-head: can't remember the name atm.
QuoteImagine how fast technology is jumping ahead of what we think is the current state of the art! Moore's Law kicking in, methinks!!
I agree I can only imagine what type of interfaces they have now a days that there not showing us yet...I'm w8ing patiently though :)
I used to use (and still own, actually) a 3D desktop app called 3DNA, which was flat out awesome, provided that you only used one monitor. Once I made the move to a dual monitor setup, it just went by the wayside. :( Shame, too, because it REALLY looked awesome, and had some great games built in. :)
Dave to the rescue, Thanks  That's the program I could not remember the name of, That was one cool os shell
I really don't know why they abandoned that program, it was one of the coolest things out.
I also recall one called Bumptop 3D but I believe the wonderful folks at Google bought it from them for...
Find the youtube demo here:
BumpTop 3D
BumpTop 1.0 - 3D Desktop Zen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqcmPJ-oVL0#)
There's a much Newer 3D desktop that (works on / for Win 8?) can be found:
Windows 8 "WIND" 3D
FIRST LOOK ON WINDOWS 8 "WIND" 3D DESKTOP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6c1DVDy_ig#ws)
Before long, our real world will be in 3D!! :o :scratch-head: ;D
The 2nd one looks almost identical to Zen but for pads/touchscreens.
I like this but wonder how much (no longer for sale) or shipped with win8?
I tried BumpTop a while back. I never really liked it for it was buggy, but this was when tit first came out. I have not tried the newest versions.
I agree Snowcrash WIND does look a lot like BumpTop

Again, I think GOOGLE bought it from the original developers and AFAIK it hasn't been seen nor heard of since.
Then again... :scratch-head:
I know Art :D
I was referring to this newest version that is available http://download.cnet.com/BumpTop/3000-2072_4-10912219.html (http://download.cnet.com/BumpTop/3000-2072_4-10912219.html) the one I tried was version 1.0ish
Sadly, the download button on that page no longer leads to the actual program. Any more these days, I just use minor tweaks, like Stardock's Fences. I've also got a couple of Windows Gadgets that I use, and I'm seriously considering converting one of the three monitor areas into a full time tabbed browser that's built right into the desktop, rather than as a maximized window (that way, nothing can hide behind it), but I'm just not up to that sort of effort quite yet. :) Used to get that same type of functionality with Windows 98/XP's Active Desktop feature, but it's no longer available, AFAIK. Shame, really. If you could design a web page with the functionality you wanted, you could just embed it into your desktop. Fun stuff! :)
Sorry Dave that was a typo, it should of read "was available" not 'is available."
I use Stardock's ObjectDock on my laptop, and I use to use there windowsBlinds. On my desktop I now use Okozo with my own theme and RainMeter with a custom download theme, I only have them on once in a while though.
This is to go onsale in the USA in 2013 for approx $30-40k. But oh what fun.
http://www.gibbssports.com/ (http://www.gibbssports.com/)
Oh, LORD that looks like fun! Where does the line form, again? :D
Nice find snowy, they look like great fun ;D
Diesel likes alot, I wonder if they will get Type Approval for over here.

Found this on BABlog (http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2013/02/01/galaxy_rugs_astronomy_based_rugs_for_your_living_room.html).
I know I'm a geek but this rug is cool (http://www.thefancy.com/things/267723337344483963/Galaxy-Carpets-by-Sch%C3%B6nstaub).
And this one...
Very nice rugs indeed. For the price though, I would have to frame it and put it on a wall :P
They are a little pricey those, still, drop a lit ciggy on them and you can add as many Black Holes as you wish. :)
I do like these. Stirling coffee cup engine. (http://www.stirlingengine.com/product/78)
The coffee-powered engine - Sixty Symbols (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd7nLOEsqj8#ws)
And how to build your own (https://sites.google.com/site/stirlingbuilder/coffee-cup-stirling-engine). Not as nice but effective. Or a windmill one as a kit (http://www.stirlingengine.com/product/25).
now that would make a unique cpu cooler :D
I'd doubt that it would absorb enough heat to be of any real use, but that said, mounting one to the top of the case would lend a sort of "steampunk" atmosphere to the rig, don't you think? :)
Would make for a great conversational piece :D
if my shoulder was not injured I would want one of these https://www.leapmotion.com/ (https://www.leapmotion.com/)
available this month at some point so the site says, and only $70.00
Introducing the Leap Motion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d6KuiuteIA#ws)
VERY cool! but it's $80, Syber; not $70
Dough!!! that is correct Dave, I forgot they raised it recently.
I like this device. Same job as a connect but under the monitor instead of above.
Much better idea than this (http://www.datahopa.co.uk/forum/new-technology-science-etc/3d-computer/) due to it can work with any screen. Not 3D I suppose but much smoother.
I like the looks of this...
Kymera Jet Rescue Board (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adjSsMajP74#ws)
At $2500, still a little expensive but with mass production, I'm sure that'll come down.
Lets hope they get the project off of the ground.

I don't need a coffee table but this one would be cool.
http://www.floppytable.com/floppytable-images-2.html (http://www.floppytable.com/floppytable-images-2.html)
Love that coffee table but some of the other designs of this fella leave a bit. That black bed for example, get up in the middle of the night to take a leak and snag your little toe on one of the bed legs, your gunna' be up all night looking for the little blighter.
Rather quirky :)
I've found an affordable, geeky toy I'm lusting after. A 3D printer.
https://shop.ultimaker.com/en/ultimaker-kits/ultimaker-kit-new.html#
It's working out at about £1,500 for the kit, software, plastics, VAT and shipping.
Still trying to work out a money making angle on this though.
Imagine the computer case parts you could whip up, for custom computer builds, or "Artsy" home/garage/man cave wall decorations, or unique jewelery, or one of any number of items. :)
For that matter, you could use it to create casting negatives for custom metal fabrication, or... Well, the list is endless. :)
If you get the professional 'sintering (http://production3dprinters.com/production-3d-printers)' type of 3D printer, you can make metal parts directly.
Please note that they don't publish their prices. If you have to ask...
Snowcrash you could always use it for your current storage project, and sell other designs as well ;)
you could also use it to build a 2nd bigger 3D printing machine :P
For al you RC fans, how about one of these? (http://www.festo.com/cms/en_corp/13165.htm)
Festo - BionicOpter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj1yhz5io20#ws)
Until I went to the website, I had this crazy notion that it was "actual size" (e.g. 3-5cm long). Then I saw that it was much, much larger. :o :D
Still in all, it's an amazing machine. :)
I was going to post this in the new technology section but then I thought "Dammit I want one"!!!!

Totally impractical, even if I did win the lottery.
I love it ;D :o
Have they built one? Or is that just CAD/CGI?
I'm not sure nbut it's a great throw back to some of the great Le Mans style racers of the 50's / 60's like the C-type jaguar etc.
I think I may be in love.....for the second time, after Mrs DD of course.....what was that, coming dear.......... :P
Would love to have one of these :D
Prototype Quadrotor with Machine Gun! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNPJMk2fgJU#ws)
If it was real I would join you Syber, it's a well faked video that but there are a few give aways such as the car window exploding outwards when "charlene" shoots it in!!!!
If you look closely, the quad-rotor vanishes just before the explosion goes off inside the car. Still in all, it looks like a fun thing to have, even without the ordinance. :)
Also, there's a more tangible option:

any how good eyes to the both of you
I always wanted to build a heli, since I was a young lad..and since quad copter concept came to my knowledge I been feeling a strong urge to build one...only thing holding me back is funds :(

as much as I would love to ride that Dave, I don't think I would want to own it.
now this on the other hand First electric Motorcycle, cheap and fast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAFptrSuw7E#ws)
I just simply love the concept of this thing. Totally impractical for every day use but what a show stopper. Over here, all those low down plastics wouldn't last two minutes on our roads, besides, you would need to check your wheels every time you stopped to ensure there wasn't a kid from the local Social Housing Estate jammed in there.

Maybe they would call it tumble drying :P
Love the curves :D
I'm not a rider but love the engineering of bikes in general. The light cycle looks a little ungainly to ride but what a cool looking machine. Love the wheels.
$2900-$4400 for 60-120 mile range step through bike. Seems competitive and the tech is getting there.
Like to know more about the batteries.
I most definately want this!!!!! :shades:

I'll take the engine for sure, but if that's the image of the boat to be: I think I'll pass.
At 50 knots I'll take it!!!
The stuff of mad mans dreams.
QuoteAt 50 knots I'll take it!!!
you know that is not that fast, it's only around 57 miles an hour.
I would rather place that engine in a 21 foot speed boat and get about 140 mph :D
But that is just me being a mad man now lol :P
50 knots in coastal waters is fast Syber (especially in British waters :D) this boat will be out in much rougher weather than the speedboat which require an almost flat calm.
Our problem is more of this:
Brighton rough sea on a windy day. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUWB0jY72k0#ws)
Than this:
Brighton, calm sounds beside the sea. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNblaD6DQak#)
Meaning speedboats tend not to see much usage :D
The only thing I would add to that DD, if you can afford that canoe in the first place, you are likely to use it to scoot around some Tropical Island somewhere. :pirate:
Not the sort of thing you would see bouncing around on a trailer behind a 20 years old Mitsubishi Pajero, being dumped into the oggin' at Rope Tackle me thinks.
I do wonder where they found these engines and what happens for spare parts ?. Still, I suppose if you can afford the thing in the first place, you can afford to have the parts manufactured from scratch. :)
They are only building 10, and could you imagine haring around with the Merlin growling away behind you, that would be great fun 8)
IC your point, but me I would be out there in a 21 foot deep v sorta like this guy in his 43 footer :P

Can you imagine the magnetic field you'd need for this to be real. And the power required. Not to mention the iron being stripped out of your body.
I still want one though. :D
