Here's a site which gives a great insight to local history. I can remember visiting this place as a kid, mostly because there was always an Ice Cream Van parked at the entrance, but I would run around causing mayhem with no regard to the significance of the old building still visible above ground or, indeed lay beneath.
As you can see from the Web Site, this project has been running for a few years now. My Brother is one of the Volunteers with the restoration and has offered, several times, to give me a guided tour.
That's what prompted me to check out the Web Site and was astonished to discover the depth of History this place has to offer. Check it out if you want.

Great find Diesel, I admit that I although I grew up in Brighton I know next to nothing about Shoreham Fort although I've been to the Wish Tower and Eastbourne Redoubt and Fort Newhaven several times!!!!
Mayhap when I do get back to Brighton I'll have to see about getting myself & Mrs DD one of those guided tours........ ;D
Nice lil website there
