In an effort to find all the stuff that is clogging up my main drive I came by this. It was really useful to find stuff in the AppData especially - I had many GBs being used by stuff that wasn't uninstalled fully.

After all my tidying up tonight I freed up about 40-50GBs of space.

It is said that every cloud has a silver lining, the virus lock-down is having a huge effect on carbon emissions around the world.

Here in the UK our electricity generation emissions have almost reached our 2030 target over the last 7 days.

A little bit of positivity in these darker times.

A little light humor for the weird times we find ourselves in...

Quite a while back (couple of years), Data mentioned to me that I should consider switching over to SSD instead of my "old" hard drives. At the time, the prices simply didn't justify the quantity of storage. Well friends, it seems that tech has finally come to it's senses and leveled the playing field a bit better.

Unfortunately, my existing (OLD) computer of about 11 years has finally reached that point in it's lifespan where it's rapidly beginning to wave goodbye. A message was found by me in the Event Manager that was somewhat reminiscent of HAL from 2001:A Space Odyssey when Hal informed Dave that it had detected a fault in the AE-35 unit and that it was going to fail.

The message I received was: The driver has detected that device \driver\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard dick drive. A failure may be imminent.

I didn't take too long to think about a replacement. Long story short, my new laptop has a 1 TB SSD!!
Data was right. Programs load amazingly fast and Windows boots in record time almost making me wonder if it forgot anything.

Of course, now if the time spent transferring over everything that I really want to keep and not from backing up old stuff to a new machine. Many of those old programs I simply no longer use nor want.

It's similar to Spring cleaning my system. Once everything is transferred and working properly, I shall make a Mirror Image Backup. I know Windows can perform such a Mirror Image Backup but have never tried it. Some said it was painfully slow but that might be a matter of opinion.

At any rate, Data & Freddy, Thanks for the recommendation to make the switch! Worlds of difference.

Here's something that will get you out and about :D

I wonder, can solar panels be anything but dark? :scratch-head:

Saw this today. At first I thought, well why are we turning to celebrities for an opinion - I feel an energy expert would be more qualified. But then it does start a conversation and Kryten is well informed on things like this today. So I put my negative thoughts on hold and opened up.

If they went overland like they are afraid of then it would probably cause a mess. I like trees too, but they can be replanted and after a decade or so I imagine it will have recovered a lot. Anyway, they prefer the idea of having it done off shore, so there's something to be said for their outcry.

Interesting and not too long a read.
