How come The Lord of the Rings Online is free to play, whats the catch?

Anyone seen this yet ? It's on ITV4 at the moment as I type and is really weird.

It's like watching football with multi ball or four nets or something

A new ball called the 'Power Ball' that lets you get double points for a short time. The baulk end is now the 'Power Zone' where you can also get double or more points.

Less reds on the table, players breaking like it's a game of Pool.

An entire match seems to have a set amount of time and points from one frame carry on into the next. I guess whoever has the most points at the end of the time wins...
