This video made me cry, it's the first time this lady has ever heard anything.
Joanne Milne's Implants are turned on and she hears for the first time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7LcNUxcQ8Y#)
Bless her :D
Yes, very moving moment.
I'm going to be a bit of a downer here, but I can't help but call BS. I have a nephew (great nephew, really) who was 100% deaf and received implants, and while his reaction was similar (insofar as he cried, too), he was not able to respond as the woman in the video did for 2 reasons:
1.) Having never heard human speech before, he didn't understand what he was hearing, and
2.) again, never having heard human speech before, he himself didn't know how to talk.
Now granted, my nephew was only 5 or 6 at the time, and this woman was clearly an adult, but the same principles apply, I would think.
I think you might be a little mean there Dave, human beings are incredible at dealing with their afflictions and I know that deaf people can be taught to speak, I have spoken to them before and this lady has had 39 years to learn it.
I personally think it is true and extremely 8)
I think it's for real too, I just can't see anyone faking it and they would have to be Laurence Olivier to pull it off and then some.
I imagine she had learnt to lip read or something. A lot of deaf people can still speak.
But yeah, it all seems real to me ;D
Fair enough, and apologies if I seem mean (that is not my intention, really). I truly hope that I'm wrong, but there are so many videos out there that try to portray this sort of thing
(some far more convincing than others) that it's getting harder and harder not to become jaded.
You're forgetting one major thing here Dave. She's a woman. :o ;D
Try to be more sceptical and less cynical. I tell myself this every day. It's a healthier outlook on life. And always remember "all perception is a gamble" (R.A.Wilson (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/r/robert_anton_wilson.html))
I didn't think you were being mean Dave :)
I do know what you mean though. I see a lot of hoaxes come up on Facebook these days. One place that sometimes sheds light is :

For me and this video though, it's a gut feeling that it's for real.
I think I might have had a poor choice of word, I honestly don't think Dave is mean, sorry for any offence I might have caused.
No offense taken, Data. I think that you may have a valid point, really. sometimes we say things that come across in ways that we don't intend. No need to apologize.
