OK.  .  .  sorry about that.  .  .  just had to do it!

I am Art.   Not a famous oil painting or even a chalk drawing.  .  .  just an AI enthusiast, acoustic guitar hack, amateur woodworker and all around good natured grandfather! (after all, my children are .  .  .  .  you ready? .  .  .  a work of Art! <cymbal crash>!

A lot of you might know me from AI Dreams, Zabaware or Chatbots.  org sites.   I'm known as Art there as well.   (it is my real name). 

Been around computers since circa 1980 and with the exception of my last and current computer, have built every one of them from component parts.   (that way you get to have what YOU want and not what the factories think you need). 

I know a lot of names here and feel that I am among friends which is a rare commodity these days.   If I can share or help, I will. 

Looking forward to some good times and meeting some new faces as well!

I have read many of your post's over at AI, always educational and, sometimes, informative.  Over here, I'm sure Data would like to moderate 99.9% of my post's, or even boot me out of the forum but I'm like the relative you don't invite to any family affairs and only ask after thier welfare as a passing interest.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. Actually, I've been here since Feb. but accidently got swept out when the closet got cleaned.

I used to get in trouble for "participating too much" in school. Here, I got in trouble for NOT participating!! Go figure!! Heh!!!

I shall do my best to remain in good standing with the Powers that be and will try not to cause too much of a ruckus!!

Nice to see you on the forum Art, look forward to your contributions 

I realize that a good deal of time has passed since my last visit/participation. Life has a way of dealing out the cards it wants you to have and not in any particular order and not always at an opportune time or place. Ya plays what ya been dealt!

Anyhow, during that time, I've lost many good friends a few 1st and 2nd cousins, a son-in law and worst of all, both parents within 3 months of each other. It was part of their life's cycle but it was devestating for me. Being an only child can have it's pros and cons. That was two years ago and I still miss them terribly.

Then a few other school mates recently and our friend, Dave, whom I'd actually met and treated to lunch. He had gone to the Chatbot Conference in Pennsylvania and was staying in Maryland with a friend, not far from Annapolis. Well that was an excellent opportunity for me to make it a nice trip and drive to meet him. What a time we had and even though we had spoken over the phone numerous times when he lived in Nevada, it was like a meeting of two old friends. Dave was like that...warm, light-hearted, charming and so engaging. Somewhere I still have a photo of the two of us in front of that restaurant which I'll simply have to locate.

I have since retired from 30 years as an engineering consultant for a Transportation Department and am thoroughly enjoying myself!

It is largely due to Freddy's invitation that I am here once more and I shall try to behave myself. (when possible).

We all miss our Dave a lot, his wisdom and friendship meant so much to us all, words can't do it justice.

Talking of wisdom, thank you for your inspirational input "Ya plays what ya been dealt!" In some ways a sad fact of life but so true at the same time.

Things have changed quite a bit on the site, we don't really chat much about A.I these days, Legion has gone to silicon heaven and much of our interests have changed over the years. You might not find much content to inspirer the gray cells here but of course you are always welcome.
