With 1.17 billion transistors and at 32nm. That's a track/transistor size of 320 atoms folks  :P

130Watt though.  ???

The X stands for extreme so this CPU is not really the one that most people will buy.

With that benchmark review I'd stick with the 920 and clock it...

£1000 to £200 in cost

Hmm... so my clocked Q9400 scores 7.4 WEI, an i7 950 scores 7.5, little bit better and the new i7-980x is a little better again. (don't know the WEI score)

Don't think im going to rush out to get one either, would we actually see any difference in games?

However put me down for five too, it would be nice to have them just to say I have one/five.   8)

Only recently got a second hand Quad from ebay, £47 its an early one but noticeably better at games than my old dual core, now I need some ram. Nowing me I will get one of these 6 cores when they are about £50 second hand. LOL

It's good to see intel are still using the LGA1336 though I wonder what the next gen will be.

Just costed up a realistic dream machine and it comes in at £1700-2000 for parts (1-2 graphics cards) inc  intel SSD. Gonna have to do the lotto!  ;)

Just found this snippet in the review linked from Datahopa's post...

The new 32nm Westmere microarchitecture reduces power drain down to only 12W at idle, which is a 'Green' step in the right direction and conserves energy.

Bodes well for the future considering it uses 130W flat out.

  I read a review about the 980 a while ago,  they had to flash the bios for the six cores, it wasn't great for overclocking.  The price for a computer with the 980 must be unbelievable.

Newegg is already selling them, 1,100 about, not positive but I think it only comes in the extreme version.
