Yup, Kaby Lake is going to replace Skylake in a few months, probably around the beginning of 2017.

Here are the main pointers I've found out.

14nm architecture, the same as Skylake but with a few small improvements.

Around 5 - 10% faster per core than Skylake.

Slightly higher clock speeds than Skylake.

Overall about 15% faster than Skylake.   

Should work on a Z170 chipset mobo with a BIOS up-date.

No major improvements that I can see, Intel still sticking with quad cores for mainstream and giving us a little better CPU than the last generation. 

Dealer, I stick.

Which isn't too bad at all considering the 5820 is a 6 core CPU, ok it's 2 generation older and slower clock speeds but for a quad to be nearly as fast now as a six core.

It seems that every time Intel bring out a new CPU it's about 15% fast than the previous.

If I was thinking of building a new PC right now I would probably hold fire for Kaby Lake. 

  From watching the vids I got the impression that there was a problem with the yields using 14 nm which is holdings things up, there was a vid of a laptop with a kaby lake in it.  It would be nice to be building something but I'm just sitting back and waiting.

I bought my 6 core in June 2015 - I'll get at least another six months out of it and likely more as I see no need to upgrade atm.

I just like to keep "virtually" up-to-date with the latest CPU technology. Interestingly AMD Zen will be released around the same time as Kaby Lake. It's going to be fight on price, well... lets hope 

  I did like the 5820 since it was a reasonable price for a 6 core CPU.  I think Intel is to big and probably has a good number of people that will stay with Intel unless AMD wants to almost give away the Zen.  I's up to AMD to turn heads and get people back to them although they have managed to hold people by offering a lower priced not as good product.

  Kaby Lake is to be released at the end of this year, it offers improvement but from what I've heard we should really wait until the next generation..

  Latest release date for Kaby Lake is Jan 5, 2017.  4.2 and 4.5 turbo speeds.  It needs a newer motherboard, it will provide more PCIe 3.0 lanes - up to 24 from 20 - as well as support for Intel's advanced new Optane SSD and memory technology.  Intel should have Optane SSDs out before the end of the year, the new SSD's are " 1,000x faster"  which I find hard to believe.  It seems a bit unfortunate but the last review I read had said to skip the Kaby Lake and wait until the next release that will have even more nice features.

I see these CPU's are out there now and plenty of people have been benchmarking them, this is what I've gathered so far.

About 5% to 7% faster per clock than Skylake (no surprise there)

Overclocking seems pretty good with 5 GHz being reached relatively easily on the quad cores. 

Some early BIOS problems with over volting causing some CPU's to run hotter than they should, that will probably be fixed soon.

  I've been following the Kaby lake and a lot are saying it not that great so I think there is a lot of hype involved.  Overclocking and getting it up to 5 Ghzs sounds great but it's not for me.  They have been bench testing these for quite a while, probably for the publicity and there must be samples sent to the manufacturers, I think I saw a laptop with one in it.

  The Intel Kaby Lake is still not being sold at Newegg but is being sold at Amazon,  Intel 7th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processor i7-7700K (BX80677I77700K) , you can purchase 2 or 3 year insurance for the processor, Price 350 and 2 day shipping.

The Intel Kaby Lake is now sold at Newegg along with the Intel Z270 motherboard that is recommended for it.  Motherboards now offer two M.2 slots which can be used as raid,  but there is something about a newer SSD coming out in the fall that will be quicker than the current SSD's.  Also a newer Intel CPU that is said to be better than the Kaby Lake.

Yes I noticed that, more and more components are moving to mobo, might not be long now until no drives are plugged into the board with a lead. Unless you require a DVD drive.
