Well it happened, I killed IE9,  All of a sudden to me at least it wouldn't open the homepage, wanted to look for a solution, wanted to close internet explorer. A small mesanger said it stopped working.  Chrome worked, tried to reinstall IE9 but it wouldn't install because it was working with ie9 not ie8 i think.  I had a problem in the past and did a complete OS reinstall.  I've already started moving things so I can make a disk of things I've collected.  The solution for now is a restore which got ie9 running and the restore said it couldn't work because of an error.

You can uninstall IE9 from the system Carl2, that might actually mend IE8 as well, its worth a try.

To uninstall Internet Explorer
The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

1.   Click the Start button  , type Programs and Features in the search box,
             and then click View installed updates in the left pane.

2.   Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.

3.   Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.

4.   Click one of the following:

·   Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9, and
             restore the previous  version of Internet Explorer).

·   Restart later (to wait until you shut down or restart your computer).

  Thanks for the info Data, I tried doing a reinstall, then a uninstall and reinstall.  What ended up working for me was a system restore from a restore point only a few days ago.

Glad you got it sorted out ok Carl2.

Incidentally IE9 final version is being released on March 14th 2011, as I'm typing this its tomorrow, looking forward to installing it, and as we know, if for what ever reason we don't like it, we can remove it and revert to IE8. 

Have installed IE9, seems to be better than the beta was, those annoying bugs I was getting have gone. Lets see how it goes over the next week or so.

Now I have IE9 installed I thought I would have another go at running it in 64-bit, and surprisingly I've had success this time, the last time I tried I couldn't get flash to run making it as much as useless for me.

Now there is a 64-bit flash player, still in development stages, but it seems ok so far and there is also 64-bit Java both work in IE9.

So how do you run 64-bit IE9 ?

You must have 64-bit Vista or 64-bit Windows 7 for a start 

Download and Install Internet Explorer 9

To run IE in 64-bit
type "Internet Explorer" into the start menu, then select Internet Explorer 64-bit

Download and install the 64-bit flash player

NOTE for Diesel, forget about the 64-bit stuff but you might want to go and download the new IE9 from the link above, its got to be better than your broken IE8.

Am I the only one to be using IE9 in 64-bit? 

So far I have this to say about it.

Good god its fast  ,
so fast that when I do a refresh on some sites, Aidreams for example, you don't see it do it, so I end up refreshing again just to make sure.

I have had the beta flash player get a bit screwed up once, but that was easily sorted out by navigating away from the page that was causing it and then back again.

Since I've started using 64-bit I haven't used 32-bit IE9 once.

is it perfect? No, show me a browser that is.

  I have win 7 64 bit,  when I go to what was the start ( now a ball ) I can start Internet Explorer (64 bit) or Internet Explorer which I think is a 32 bit version.
When I downloaded IE9 i'm pretty sure I downloaded the 64 bit version for the 64 bit OS.

When you download IE9 the page should detect your OS and will give you the correct version.

If on a 32-bit OS you are given the 32-bit IE9

If on a 64-bit OS you are given a download that contains both 32 and 64-bit IE9, should you try to install only 32-bit into a 64-bit OS it will fail, I know because I tried it 

You can check if you are running IE9 in 64-bit from the "help, about internet explorer" tab.

  I just checked my version, it dose not specify 32 or 64 bit.  I think this one was downloaded just before the final version was announced.  Okay I just checked the IE that is 64 bit, it says it is the 64 bit version,  with IE8 I had the 64 bit and the 32 bit.
  Wanted to mention I just ran spybot search and destroy, took awhile but it seems things are quicker, also dropped verizon as the homepage since it takes so long to load.

Just installed IE9 and had a quick look.  Seems like they copied things from Chrome, like the most visited sites tab.  Shame they did not copy the 'Paste and Go' idea or maybe that would be going to far.  Still no webkit...

I'll try it out a bit more, but I doubt I will use it much apart from testing web pages, I am happy with Chrome.

I thought it was a lot like Chrome too, the things you mentioned Freddy and even its snappiness.

At the end of the day, we have to run IE for a couple of reasons...
so we might as well have the latest, that's how I see it.

I am running IE9 now. Looks nice and snazzie.

I wish the favs were on the left not the right. I seem to move the mouse more now. Can do favs from the pull down menu with 'menu bar' on but the browser doesn't look as good then.

When downloading it now appears as an overlay in the window at the bottom which is a bit weird. And the command bar is now an overlay (can put it back to original).

Does Duskrider know he's running IE6?

You'd be better off with Mozilla or Chrome, or IE8 at least.

Its odd isn't it, some people just point blank refuse to up-grade IE, I'm guessing they hear or read of horror stories about how bad the latest versions are and think damm it, this works why change. They are happy with what they have and blissfully unaware of what they are missing.

Personally I would never buy or send personal information over the web through IE6, way too dodgy.
