Title: New Malware ?
Post by: Freddy on October 27, 2016, 00:49:53 AM
Has anyone else been getting this ?

I've been getting it popup over the past few weeks and don't really know what's causing it  :scratch-head:

At first I thought it was legit, and accepted it, but it installed the Chromium (not Chrome) browser. I managed to get rid of that, but I still occasionally get this popup. If you do get it btw, just right click on it in the task bar and close it rather than click on anything on the popup.

Defender doesn't find anything so far.

Smells a bit suspicions doesn't it.

Next time it pops up "open file location" from task manager, make a note of the location and .exe file name and then google it.

That would be my first action to take.

EDIT:

I found this link, looks like it is a known problem:

See if you can remove it manually before you install any removal tools.

I notice the site data mentioned call it adware, I had something some what related in my computer and Defender did not find it.  Virus protection is mostly concerned with something that will stop your computer from working adware and malware are secondary.
Here is what was the name of an adware remover that was recommended and used by me.  adwcleaner 6.201,  here is a link to a newer version

Thanks both. I will try the manual removal.

Actually I have Malwarebytes installed already, but that has not picked it up either.
