Data

Yeah you read it correctly, Windows 11 is coming, maybe even this year.

What it looks like:

Windows 11 running Android Apps:

Freddy

Looks nifty, but for some unspecified reason the compatibility check said my PC can't run it.

Get the same message on my new Ryzen  :scratch-head:

I suspect that it could be SSD space on C: drive, I only have 17 GIG free.

Carl2

It is available for download here but I'll wait till later before doing the download.

I have 67GB spare, so that's not my issue. Too early to rely on it I reckon.

Yup, I won't be updating it until it's been out a while. If even then - I'm not sure really, that video seems to say that it is mainly cosmetic changes.

Yeah the Health Check doesn't seem to be working great as both our PC's do measure up to the minimum specs.

I certainly won't be up-dating until Win 11 is officially released and I've seen some more reviews but I will up-date at some point.

The ability to run Android apps without an emulator is quite a nice feature even if it's only apps from the Amazon store

EDIT:

MS have updated the win 11 check - it now shows why a PC isn't compatible.

Uninstall the old version and install the new one, obviously :)

Mine is the lack of space on C: drive.

Freddy

Thanks for the heads up. My reason is that the processor isn't supported.

So I won't be updating.

Again I suspect that your CPU will be supported - it is quite a niche CPU and probably hasn't been added to the check list yet, it is easily fast enough.

Freddy

Yes I think you are right, it's a few months to go after all.

I've been doing a bit more research on Win 11 hardware requirements and things are not as straight forward as I originally thought, without going into to too much detail PC's older than 5 years will probably not be able to run the new OS as they don't support the security standards required. MS might change this in the future but don't hold your breath.

Have my PC ready to go now but wasn't just the C: drive space.

I enlarged my C: drive to 64 GIG (using the built in windows disk manager), run the win 11 check again and it failed to pass, this time saying TPM2.0 was not enabled.

Going into the BIOS I found TPM disabled - I enabled it and looks like I'm good to go.

It's looking like older PC's will have to stay on win 10 and MS are saying win 10 will be retired in 2025, of course this might change but I feel the clock is ticking.

Two more pics of my win 11 journey.

Freddy

I don't mind. This PC is still fine.

It's 6 years and 4 days old now  8)

I had thought it would be good to get five years out of it. I don't think I want the hassle of building one, I'll probably get a custom build made when I replace it, but that's not going to be soon - probably from Mesh Computers though.

One mans hassle is another mans joy  ;) but I see where you are coming from  :)

Windows 10 has been by far the best MS OS to date IMHO, good performance and pretty rock solid.

I'm interested now in the performance of win 11, is it better or worse than win 10, early benchmarks are showing the same performance on both OS's.

Freddy

Like I said, to me it did look mainly cosmetic from that earlier video.

If it ain't broken...

Data

Well there is no rush, win 10 still has 4 years left after all.

I want to use and learn win 11, I believe it is progress not just cosmetic. MS are pushing PC gaming with Win 11.

QuoteMicrosoft has detailed how Windows 11 is built for gamers with new improvements such as DirectX 12 Ultimate, Direct Storage, and Auto HDR (high dynamic range.) The company is committed to gaming and says that it's a core part of Windows 11, which is expected to ship later this year.

Windows 11 is built for gamers

I know some of this will be hype but there is a real push for improvements in gaming and Apps going on under the hood.

Hey, we will all be using it one day  :D

Freddy

Save yourself some money and frustration - just buy an Xbox One X  ;D ;)

Does 4K, has HDR, has most of the big games. Costs way less than a Gaming PC and developers will know it better inside out over an esoteric gaming build.
