Smoke me a Kipper I'll be back for breakfast - Ace Rimmer

That would be interesting to see. Amazing how much money a game needs - I wonder how much the original Elite cost to make.

I remember being really crap at Elite  ;D

I was quite good at it.  We used to play it in the college computer room virtually every day.  ;D

LOL now show your age Freddy, what computer were you using?

The original Elite on an Amiga was good. At least I think that one was the original.

It had various names when it crossed onto PC. I always found the later versions to be a bit too realistic on the fighting with lasers etc, and less enjoyable on that front. Frontier being the sequel.

A lot of games have used trading within them. I feel the game has to evolve on many fronts, not just graphical. X1, X2 and X3 have taken that genre of game quite a way forward. There are other space trading/building games as well, like Eve.

One to keep an eye on though.

Elite pre-dates the Amiga (which is what I played it on), it was a BBC game  :o

Yes Elite first appeared on the BBC machines.  We were mostly playing on BBC 'B' computers.  :o

My dad used to bring BBC's home occasionally from the college computing department, along with commodore PETs and early 1980's Sharp computers LOL

Does anyone know if there is a nice space/trading game like EVE but without subscription ?  So I pay once and play forever...

Data

Freddy do you mean virtual or multiplayer?

Freddy

Has to be multi player. MMO..

Snowcrash

The only game I can think of is X3 but that is a single player game.

Though a bit of looking around, I did find this...

Yeah I read above you mentioned X3, but single player games are a bit of a yawn for me these days.  That Black Prophecy one I had already found but they shut it down a while back due to financial problems.

Oh well, I will play the 14 day free trial of Eve and see if I can rearrange some money if I like it.

Thanks anyway :)
