I've just watched BBC Horizon.

Are Video Games Really That Bad?

It turns out that gaming is good for you, it can improve the brain by up to 30%, improving memory, reaction times, cognitive ability and coordination. Tests showed some very positive results in the elderly as well.

Doctors are now thinking of using games instead of medication for some conditions.

The video is not working for some reason but I know what you mean. It's good for building team work skills too and makes you feel part of something. I mean in things like multi-player games.

I'd agree with the rest of the points to.

Data

Yes for some reason the video isn't working, shame that  :(

Glad you agree Freddy and I also thought they were probably good for us too :)

If anyone in the UK wishes to watch it then search the iPlayer for:

I liked the conflicting reports of violent games make people more prone to violent behaviour and the statistics of since violent games have been around, violent crimes have gone down by 80%. Moreover, when a new violent game goes on the market, there is a dip in violent crimes.

We, being humans, are complex and the reasons behind these reports are complex too.

It's not on YT so no watching it across the pond.  :(

This is something that's been an issue since we were kids. I remember I used to play D&D and at the time there were some groups that were really opposed to it, I mean they thought we were Devil worshippers !

Snowy, I hadn't really thought of the violence thing for a long time. Maybe it helps to get it out of the system. And maybe seeing the consequences in a detached way makes you think more about those consequences.

My RPGs are always about fighting evil. I know it's fantasy though of course.

Why is it that so many times people say something is bad but have never experienced it for themselves, I don't know

Violent computer games "sound bad" but in reality the evidence is the opposite.

Freddy

I think the trouble is those people it does give ideas to. Do you remember those kids who shot tires out on a motorway ? GTA was blamed for that one. But yes most people seem to see beyond it, but those are the stories that make the news.

Yes, good point.

We get the same thing over here, and it's really quite stupid, but there are people who say the same about current shows on the tele (prolly spelt that rong...), so what can you do? :-\
