I'm not sure you could make something strong enough to stop a 40cm object moving fast enough to make a 20m crater Syber  :o

OF course, if the meteor that plowed into the Moon had "struck" the Earth, instead, the results would have been quite different:

1.) More people would have seen it, but as a "falling star" (provided it fell over a "night-time" portion of the Earth, that is).
2.) Depending on it's density and angle of decent, it might never have "struck" the Earth at all, having potentially burned up in the atmosphere.
3.) Nobody would have written an article about it.
4.) We wouldn't have had the chance to learn new things about the Moon.

Personally, I'm glad it hit the Moon rather than the Earth. I just hope it didn't contaminate the Green Cheese supply ~TOO~ much! :o :P

Of course it could also have bounced of the atmosphere depending on the angle of interception.

Now about that cheese Dave, I always thought of the moon more in a blue stilton type of way........ :hmm:

With the temp of the impact, surely it would be toasted blue cheese.
