Did you know that they shot a Tesla into space and that they aim to have it orbit the sun ?
I thought it was an April Fools joke at first.

Who said electric cars don't have much range ?
Elon sure has some wacky ideas :D
 Yes very bizarre !
As I watched that test launch, I knew about it, but I had thought that this wasn't really news, as it was discussed in great detail after the launch was considered a success (it was kept secret before the launch, to be revealed as a surprise). Sorry, mates. I thought you all knew. :o
So it's safer to travel through an asteroid field than to drive on our roads.

This is really the only place I see astronomy stuff Dave, so I would not have known - no worries :)
Carl, yes, but getting it serviced might prove difficult :P
Well, given that our asteroid belt only has roughly one asteroid every six hundred THOUSAND miles (source here: item #3 (https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/asteroid.html)), I would say so, yes.. But a collision out there is what's called a "low risk, high consequence" event, so still may not be worth the risk for me. :P

Oh I knew about this, it was all over the TV here when it happened. I wonder if it had the battery and drive train in the car or was it just a shell.
From what I'm to understand, it's a fully functional vehicle, but I'm getting my information 3rd hand at best, so I may be wrong.
Well you can't say it is free publicity because of the cost to get it up there but its unique. Elon has gotten a lot of people mad at a conference by refusing to answer questions that he thinks are boring "Musk's meltdown will change Tesla's ability to raise capital when he needs it with a sector of investors,". He has a lot of loyal followers and has done a lot bringing the EV this far.
