A team of British scientists is convinced it has found proof of alien life, after it harvested strange particles from the edge of space.

The scientists sent a balloon 27km into the stratosphere, which came back carrying small biological organisms which they believe can only have originated from space.

Professor Milton Wainwright told The Independent that he was "95 per cent convinced" that the organisms did not originate from earth.

This is one of them articles that sounds just a bit too good to be true, I hope it isn't but ...

Sounds a bit unsubstantiated "we've found something but don't know what it is, let's jump to any conclusion".

If it has DNA and is similar to what we know, then it's probably from Earth. If it has completely novel DNA then it's probably from space.
Check to see if it has any at all. It could be a weird mineral.

It may well be a case of jumping to the wrong conclusion, but I think it would be very cool (and more than a little frightening) if these "organisms" were, indeed, from outer space. We'll just have to wait and see.

I do wonder if I'm biased to not believe but am still glad the Bad Astronomer agrees with my thoughts. Even if he is far more eloquent.
