Title: Dambusters
Post by: DD1975 on May 18, 2013, 16:17:24 PM
Today is the 70th annivrsary of the infamous Dams raid by 617 squadron of RAF bomber command.

Here is footage taken from inside the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lancaster "City of Lincoln" as it made a low level flypast over Derwent Dam in the United Kingdom.

This dam was used by 617 squadron during training for the raid hence being used in todays flypast.

I would suggest turning the sound up for best effect of the 4 sycronised Merlin engines  8)

I've been lucky enough to have the lanc fly at low level over me, you cannot beat the sound those engines make as they pass over you.

Me too, seen her a few times.  We were at the reservoir a couple of years back too, would have liked to see that fly past

I would have liked to be on board  :D

I saw the lanc do a low flypast as it was in a holding pattern for the Shoreham Airshow a number of years back, I was playing cricket at the time and seeing the lanc toodling about over your head at low level is a bit distracting  :o

No I don't think so Syber, as far as I am aware there is also a flying example in Canada (Built by Avro Canada it's a mark X i think and has 20mm cannon in the dorsal turret) which should do airshows as well, I will look it up for you.

Here you go Syber, the last bit of fottage of the landing is probably the best and you will see the different dorsal turret with the larger guns quite clearly there:

No seas to cross, but mabe one or two rather large lakes  :D
