After Spitfires in Burma, a slightly more sobering story from Egypt:

wow what a way to go. survive a crash landing, just to die in Egyptian desert  :(

I hope that they can confirm whether it's his plane, and can locate the remains, and perhaps even recover the aircraft before it's stripped for kitch. :(
Safe, Reliable Insanity, Since 1961!

I hope they do recover the aircraft, after 70 odd years and still in it's original markings it would make a wonderful tribute to all those who never came home like this chap did.

They did something similar in the Malta Aviuation Museum, they have a Hawker Hurricane that was raised from the sea that they have fully retored. The aircraft ditched after engine problems on take off, the pilot was very skilled and set the aircrfat down so gently the landing lamps in the wigs were still intact.

Sadly he was never recovered, and was presumed to have drowned, the museum did however track down the poilots sisters and it gave them some closure to realise how skilled their broither was as a pilot and to know something of what happened to him.

Here is a picture of the aircraft:

DD1975

Sorry to hear that Syber, understand the thought processes that went into that comment now.

Thanks everyone, He had a hip surgery, came home and went to bed. His fiance and kids found him the next morning eternally resting. I really feel real bad for his kids,
