The US agency DARPA to make a new X-Plane to investigate improved VTOL capabilities:

?? I thought the V-22 Osprey has been around for a while.
Am I missing something? Doesn't seem to be anything about an x-plane on that page.
It's another one of them BBC.com links, not available to the UK
The Osprey has been around since the 80's Snowy, the article is about DARPA commissioning a study to build a new X-Plane t o investigate the possibility of a genuine VTOL aircraft that can also achieve supersonic flight where so many attempts have failed before.
It states of all the previous attempts only 3 aircraft have made it to production, the Osprey (which has a very chequered history to say the least), the Harrier and the russion Yak 38 and none of these were supersonic

There still seems little on an x-plane. Just the pic of the Osprey was at the top where I was expecting a cool x-plane design.
Also links to this page. (http://www.darpa.mil/NewsEvents/Releases/2013/02/25.aspx)
they haven't designed it yet snowy, just announced the project to find the designs to progress at this stage.
did you read the 2 page article under the.pictures?
I found it but to be honest I didn't read it. I want a picture! ;D
Linked to the main site which says similar things so anyone who can't view the .com address can have a look too.
lol you lazy bugger.
might be a while before we see pictures on this one ;-)
