I just hope I can get to see her this year :(
:( Sad news indeed
DD1975 I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya :D
I really hope I do get to see the Vulcan this year, these were my dads favorites and I remember seeing them at airshows when I was very young they are just so impressive.
At the same time it's not the end for XH558, she will continue to do ground runs for the foreseable future, not quite the same but something at least and you never know if someone with a vast fortune may come along in the future that will allow her a full rebuild to extend her flying life....here's hoping
Here you go DD, the Vulcan at last years RAFA Show at Shoreham. Passes 2 and 5 took the plane directly over my Son's house, he did report that he was surprised that he had any windows left intact. Enjoy.

BTW, you may wish to turn the sound up. :P
Shame, I have been lucky enough to see her a couple of times - I hope they get off the ground again, but they have sunk so much money into this, sooner or later it had to happen.
You know the runway at shoreham is proably the same size as the one at Port Stanley, would have been good to see if they could recreate the Black Buck raid with flour bombs :P
Thanks for posting Diesel
The Vulcan is coing to DUBLIN :yahoo: .............I'm super excited now, roll on Flyingfest 2013 on September 15.
XH558 - Spirit of Great Britain I await you with baited breath I can't wait to see you flying low down the Liffy with those 4 Rolls Royce olympus engines roaring
You lucky lad DD :)
Lucky bastage. :P
And even better news on the Vulcan to the sky website.....Operation 2015.
If they can raise the money for this years winter service they are hoping to get two more full flying seasons out of the airframe 8)
Absolutely gutted.......................Vulcan XH558 had a problem that grounded her for the Shoreham Air Show the other weekend.
It turns out that the problem was a fuel tank leak, the assesment by the experts has revelaed that the 30 year tank was leaking in several places.
As there is no airworthy replacement they have had to commisssion a new tank to be built for which there is a 16 week lead in, so XH558 is now grounded for the rest of the 2013 flying season, so no roaring Olympus engines for DD on Sunday :sign-sad:
:( Sorry to hear that
Better to be safe than sorry I guess but yeah, I bet you were gutted to hear that. :(
So I decided not to go in the end, the weather was a bit chilly nand very windy so didn't fancy standing around for 3 hours with a 4 year old in that.
However some of the nice pilots came to me instead :D
Saw a couple of c-130 hercules, the irish air corps display team a few teimes, a couple of military helicpoter and commercial airliners.
Best of all the following went right over our apartment:
