There is a new eBook being released by Amazon entitled: A Future For Jeeney - by Cameron Jones

The book is a really gripping work of Science Fiction and gives new visions to AI and how it works when combined with an android that is shall we say, much more than an ordinary helpmate or assistant. To say that Jeeney is smart would be an understatement, and her intellect and abilities are growing in orders of magnitude.

This is a great read and this is one of those books (eBooks) that you really hate to see come to an end. Give it a try...enjoy the future...now.

Art, your review has prompted me to surf Amazon, and I found a ~LOT~ of eBooks within my price range (e.g. free) that I grabbed. Works like Dickens' Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol, Dumas' The Three Musketeers, and a Sci Fi novel by Brian Kittrel, titled The Circle of Sorcerers, plus a few more that satisfy certain other interests that, as such, can't be mentioned here. :P But regardless, I wouldn't have found them without your post, Art, so thanks. :)

They have over 40,000 FREE ebooks. Most are the classics although there are a lot of books from some really talented people who just haven't made it to the "big time".

Most of what I originally intended to use my Kindle for was as a handy reference manual for all things web related (programming languages, SQL textbooks, etc.), but I found that often times the text doesn't scale well on screens that small, so now I use it for my bedtime stories. :)

I've still not managed to drag myself into the 21st century when it comes to books.
I still read those funny paper things. Never really liked the digital paper devices. Although better than back lit for reading in bed/sunlight, I still feel the tech has someway to improove. Higher res screens and zoom/format functions wouldn't go amiss.

I did consider one last year but found the new book I wanted (only in hardback at the time) was the same price as the digital version at about £12-14. And very difficult to lend to others. I have at least 2 people that the books I buy go to after. One being Mrs Data.

I now find myself desiring one so I can download books only released on digital media. I notice the book Art is praising doesn't have a paper version.  :(

I understand what you are saying there Snowy, I bought the LHG a Kindle the Christmas before last. I found it to be a bit Hand Fisted to use, after all you could only really read from the thing and make a few notes along the way. Still, the LHG got alot of enjoyment from the thing.

This Christmas I bought the LHG a Kindle Fire. Now this is a completely different animal.


I didn't bother with the 32 Gig version as I thought that £40 for an extra 16 Gig of memory was a little strong. Just how many Apps, Games, Books etc do you need.

One other thing that we have discovered and don't ask me how or why this happens, the eBook I down loaded has been installed on both machines, if I were to read from the Kindle, then switch on the Kindle Fire, select my book, it will go straight to the page I was reading.  :scratch-head:

I have Kindle readers on both my laptop and desktop machines, and it's the same thing with those. Since they're all "registered" to me, they all automatically share eBooks, putting me at the same place I last read on each one - provided I have WiFi turned on in the Kindle; otherwise, no go. The Kindle's battery lasts weeks longer with the WiFi turned off, so unless I want to download a new eBook, it stays off. :)

Isn't the Kindle Fire a backlit display?
If it is, then I don't want it. Why not get a tablet.
If it isn't then I'm interested. What's the battery life like on it?

I'm not certain (mainly because I haven't seen one in action yet), but I think that it is back-lit. I think it's also kind of "mid-way" between a basic Kindle and a tablet; far more powerful than the Kindle, but not quite up to the features of a tablet.

There are times when I wish my Kindle was back-lit. It's a bit challenging to read in dimly lit surroundings; more so that paper & ink books.

Snowy, pay careful attention to the title where it says eBook. That's the dead giveaway. Heh! BUT...for a limited time they are giving it away for free...as in  no cost! Besides, no trees were killed in the creation of this eBook! (I think). ;)

I have now read A Future For Jeeney and here is my take on this novel.

For me, I would have liked to see a "bit more meat on the bone", although the plot was interesting, I found it a little thin, it required quite a leap of faith from me particularly in the closing chapters.

If I had paid hard cash for this book, I think I would have been disappointed, however, this is my opinion so don't be put off from what could be a very good read for yourselves.
