With every attempt so far failing to stop the leak its not looking good is it, this thing has me very worried and concerned, I mean how far is it going to spread, if they cant stop the leak they will have to contain it somehow or I see this disaster having far reaching consequences. It's bad enough for the people and wildlife it's effecting now but if it carries on and on I shudder to think what will happen.

I also cant help but think this could have been avoided, I was watching the news and they had a worker from the rig talking about what happened, he said they started to see pieces of rubber which looked like the oil seal breaking up, he reported it but was told to keep on drilling or what ever it was they were doing but he thought they should have stopped to check it out.

I don't want to play the blame game but what a great shame those signs were ignored.

I'm hoping now for the next attempt to work and plug that hole, right now it seems hope is all we have.

Yeah this is troubling me too.  I wish it wasn't a British company too.

Just goes to show how communications can fail with dramatic effect, you see such arrogance in senior roles all the time, so much for the little guy hey...

I hope the new method works.

BP have got a lot to answer to.

The underwater well head they used is not to European standards and could not be used over here. Most oil companies use a safer well head.
The problem of cutting corners. As of today (01/06/10) it has cost $1billion

Only after the last river has been polluted
And the last tree has been cut down
And the last fish is caught
And the last animal has been poisoned
Will man finally realise that you can't eat money

Is that something you made up or from somewhere Snowcrash?
Either way it seems spot on.

I cannot take credit for this, though I'd like to.

Read it or something very similar on Jerry's T shirt.

Yes, that Jerry.

So the latest on this disaster is that BP are now capturing some of the oil, I noticed on the BBC news that they are sexing this up, making it sound better than it really is, why? Yes they are capturing some of the oil but there are still thousands of gallons leaking out constantly.

This thing is not over yet.

Data

Just seen it on the news, it looks like BP has stopped the leak, has to be good news, lets hope the cap holds.

Now to the massive clean up, I wonder how long that's going to take. It seems a little pathetic of me but I wish them the best of luck.

Freddy

Yeah that's the best news I have heard for a while...and they said it wouldn't be till August originally.

Snowcrash

They're not out of the woods yet. Still a lot of pressure and the cap could still pop again.
Their best course of action now is to drill another hole and relieve the pressure on this hole. That will require a new oil rig and starting again.
Cutting corners always cost more in the long run.

Much as I hate to see the environment wreaked like this I do think it is poetic justice for the country built by oil dominance to get the pollution rather than them polluting everyone else.

Why don't you just say what's on your mind Snowcrash  :o

I understand what you're saying though but I still wish it had never happened as it's affecting the wildlife and people living on the cost who really are innocent.

May the cap stay in place until the relief well gets drilled.
