I don't like to get too political but sometimes you see things that are just daft.

Our "good friends" in the EU have spent time and money debating and drawing up new laws to ban the terms “veggie burger” and “veggie sausage”, yup that's right, with all the other crap going on in the world the EU think this is too important to ignore any longer

No I am not making this up, it's bonkers, what a bunch of numpties they really are.

Rant over.

Well, in reality, if a product is NOT a Meat, Milk, Cheese, Butter, Yogurt, etc., but rather something else from a totally unrelated substance, then it should be so labeled and not affiliated with the above-mentioned items/products.

It is quite misleading to call something a burger when it clearly is not. A similar situation would apply to other mentioned items.

While I agree that this entire issue pales in comparison to other events and issues in the world, it is one that really needs to be addressed so as to clear up any confusion and set things in order.

============

In the past, I have accidentally eaten products that were not as represented but rather a "looks like" or "tastes like" products. I was not at all amused. Butter is butter, not margarine and cheese is cheese, not cheese fool!

I can't agree with much of what you posted there Art sorry.

What is the white liquid in coconut called ?  is it Milk ?

Well not any more it might confuse people  :scratch-head:

To further my side of the argument lets have a look at the definition of "burger" on the Cambridge English Dictionary:

burger
noun
"meat or other food made into a round, fairly flat shape, fried and usually eaten between two halves of a bread roll:"

a burger and fries
a hamburger
a veggie burger

All I'm saying is that proper labeling should be given consideration.

I do not allow myself to consume Artificial Sweeteners of any kind! To me, they are legalized poison!
Nor do I eat fake cheese, fake butter or fake meat!

Real food with real labels for me and my wife.  Truth in labeling has been a real issue here in the states, with every serving size, calorie, total fat, carb, etc.

I would certainly like to know what it is that I'm purchasing or eating/drinking. But that's just me.

There is such a huge cultural difference between the U.S and the UK when it comes to food standards that it probably deserves its own topic.

Over here all foods sold in supermarkets must list all their ingredients on the label by law.

This topic is really pointing out the EU's constant interference with our every day lives in the UK but it doesn't matter anymore as we are leaving the EU on January 1st   :D

Our FDA requires that every food/consumable product has labels containing, ingredients and Nutritional Facts (Calories, Trans Fats, Total Fat, Sodium, Protein, Carbohydrates, Cholesterol, Servings in the container, and Serving Size based on the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) based normally on a 2,000 calorie per day diet).

It can be a lot of information to take in but after a while one quickly learns what to look for that's important to them and their intake.

I actually did try a Veggie burger which at first didn't seem very bad but I could tell that it was in need of more meat! JK...

It just wasn't my choice, but I do appreciate those who have adopted such a lifestyle choice.

My brain tells me this:

If the ingredients are labelled on a product then one only has oneself to blame for buying the wrong product.

If a burger is labelled as a "Veggie Burger" then one knows what they are buying.

makes sense to me

Now the EU want to ban the use of the word Veggie Burger because they think people will get confused and think it is a meat product.

That makes no sense to me, how can a Veggie Burger be a meat product, I mean everyone knows what it is, it's in the name Veggie Burger

Other types of burgers are also available:

Beef Burgers.
Turkey Burgers.
Chicken Burgers.
Bison Burgers.
Elk Burgers.
Wild Salmon Burgers.
Portobello Mushroom Burgers.
Black Bean Burgers.
Womble Burgers ( OK I made that one up  )

But Veggie Burgers  :no-no:

Am I the only one who sees the insanity here ?

I'm with you Data - everyone knows what a veggy burger means and is. Why change it?

Silly Burgers

While shopping I came across the Impossible burger, bought some hamburger,  expensive to me though steak sell for less.  Hamburger  makes a nice easy meal to cook, french fries on the side is nice.
