Title: Maybe not so Famous Quotes
Post by: Diesel on October 27, 2011, 21:41:41 PM
Recently Freddy started a thread about changing the word Heart to Butt with regard to song titles, just for fun. :hats-off: Plenty of posts were made and seeing that that the forum has been fairly quiet of late, I thought I might start this one.   Again just for fun. Post any quotes you like, they don't need to be substantiated or have an author, what ever you want.

Just a few to get things started.

King Harold, "someone's going to have someone's eye out with all these arrows".

Joan of Arc, "hot here isn't it".

And this one I found recently and really liked, "atheism is a non prophet organisation".

Over to you all, oh and Freddy, you can plagiarize this if you like.

I love the 'atheist' quote, not heard that one before.

I have to put at least one Douglas Adams quote in here as he is my fav author and Dave will like it too.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. (DNA)

Thought of another one...

The secret to life is sincerity, once you can fake this you have life sussed.

Here's one:

"The secret to winning the support of large groups of people is positive thinking." ~Napoleon

And this one, which I heard long, long ago, and so don't remember where it came from:

"The problem with fool-proof plans is that everyone underestimates the ingenuity of fools."

Not sure Dave, but I think I have heard that somewhere before.

In light of recent revelations with regard to Faster than Light experiments and re-runs etc, here's a quote from Benjamin Disraeli.

"To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge".

It is kind of bizarre that out of all the thousands of quotes around that Dave and Snowy came up with the same one...

So far my favourite has to be Diesel's signature...

Is the glass half full or half empty?, maybe my vessel is too big!!!.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Getting back to speed of light"

"It is impossible to travel faster than speed of light,
and certainly not desirable, as one's hat keeps blowing off"

Yeah, sorry about that. I hadn't seen Snowy's contribution when I posted mine. It is a bit odd, though, that we came up with the same one. :)

In the books from his Myth series, Robert Lynn Asprin has a tendency to place spurious quotes from various individuals in the headings of his chapters. Here's an example:

"Man shall never reach his full capacity while chained to the Earth. We must take wing and conquer the heavens." --Icarus

Not that unusual seeing as we're both Douglas Adams fans. Mine is the correct quote though. na na nana na  ;D

Here's another.

The spaceship hung in the air in exactly the the way a brick doesn't.

The graphics are very dated but still a classic. And everyone loves Marvin the paranoid android.
Incidentally, when Marvin finally circums he is twice as old as the universe due to his time travel and being abandoned.

Not to stray too far off topic, but here's a HHGTTG trivia question:

in the entire series of books, movies, radio shows, etc. what are the first words that Agrajag utters (says, thinks, whatever), and why?

'cos Aurther Dent keeps killing him. Even as a bowl of petunias. I think.

Well done, Snowy! Kudos for a job well done! I'm all out of Brownie Buttons and Kewpie Dolls, though. :(

And I have to get a Groucho one in :

"From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Some day I intend reading it."

I like the Groucho one.  ;D

I have read all 5 of the increasingly inaccurately named trilogy of HHGTTG several times.

This one is a Churchill quote I think. Our PM not the dog.

You sir, use statistics like a drunk uses a lampost. For support rather than illumination.

I like that, not heard it before.

Another Groucho one I found :

"Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others."

Here's a thought for you,

I've just found this brilliant quote from Groucho Marx and just had to share it with you all.

"Just give me a comfortable couch, a Dog, a good book and a Woman. Then, if you can get the Dog to go somewhere and read the book, I might have a little fun".  :shades:

Not sure but I keep getting the feeling of deja vu and amnesia at the same time.

I think I've had that feeling also, but I can't really remember. :scratch-head:

Found this on a fridge whilst working.

I do have a photo but it's easier to type...

Life is not a journey to the grave, arriving in a well preserved, attractive body.
One should show up late and skid in sideways, screaming "Woo Hoo. What a Ride.".

I can live with that.  :D Err, wait a minute....... :scratch-head:

My Brother gave me one earlier:

QuoteGirls are nice to look at. Too bad some of them ruin it by talking.
