now this tech is a lil over a year old now, maybe I'll get one for my computer case I'll be building  :P

DaveMorton

Ok, THAT one is on my list! Could you imagine the flight sim we could program using a pair of those and the shuttle Enterprise? :D ;D :)

I like it,

Wonder if you could get a dual motherboard  :scratch-head:, have two of the little beauties.  8)

Not sure one would be enough.

Neither is Intel, they want 10,000 of them to make a super computer.

At the speeds and such that those chips run, and given the whole "diminishing returns" quandary, 10,000 of those would likely only net around 5 petaflops - But still, that's 5x1015 - or 5,000,000,000,000,000 operations per SECOND! :O

2 would be great, with a dual board and a NVIDIA Tesla C870 quad GPU HPC system of course  ;)

now all's we need is funds, where is that money tree growing again  :P

Art

Gee...imagine how fast you could play Tic-Tac-Toe with one of those!! :o ;D
Or I think it might be noughts and crosses for you Brits...right? ;)

I wonder how long it will take for games to be optimized to use all 50 of those cores if they make a consumer addition for personal pc  :scratch-head:

DaveMorton

Generally speaking, if a game is optimized to take advantage of multiple cores, it matters little how many cores there are. On the other hand, Operating systems seem to be another matter, :P

Most games seen to like 3 cores plus 1 core for windows. This may well be a legacy of the Xbox as it has 3 cores.
More cores than this seem a waste at the moment but not for long I'm sure.

3D printer, Oh yea!!!  I gotta get me one or build one someday.

What a brilliant idea, I do wonder though, how long it would be before the whole structure became habitable. I did buy a new house many years ago and vowed never to buy another. Several years of "Drying" and "Settling" was more than enough for me.

I was also wondering, do you think this guy was once stuck in a car wash and thought, "there must be a much better use for this machine".  :P
It WILL be fine !...

sybershot

Habitable in about 3-6 month I would think, but settlement repairs needed for at least the rest of it's time standing.

I would not want a 3d printer of that size, The one made by http://www.makerbot.com/ seems about the size I would want.

That is a funny thought
