People running Ubuntu and beryl have been doing that 3D rotating cube desktop for over 4-5 years. Imagine how fast technology is jumping ahead of what we think is the current state of the art! Moore's Law kicking in, methinks!!

At my age, I don't HAVE to keep UP...I just have to KEEP GOING!!! Hahaha!! :o

I been using "yodm 3d desktop" for my windows machines for at least 3 years now if not longer....I also remember a 3d desktop I use to use on xp that was pretty cool  :scratch-head: can't remember the name atm.

I agree I can only imagine what type of interfaces they have now a days that there not showing us yet...I'm w8ing patiently though :)

I used to use (and still own, actually) a 3D desktop app called 3DNA, which was flat out awesome, provided that you only used one monitor. Once I made the move to a dual monitor setup, it just went by the wayside. :( Shame, too, because it REALLY looked awesome, and had some great games built in. :)

Dave to the rescue, Thanks  That's the program I could not remember the name of, That was one cool os shell
I really don't know why they abandoned that program, it was one of the coolest things out.

I also recall one called Bumptop 3D but I believe the wonderful folks at Google bought it from them for...
Find the youtube demo here:

BumpTop 3D

There's a much Newer 3D desktop that (works on / for Win 8?) can be found:
Windows 8 "WIND" 3D

Before long, our real world will be in 3D!!  :o :scratch-head: ;D

Snowcrash

The 2nd one looks almost identical to Zen but for pads/touchscreens.

I like this but wonder how much (no longer for sale) or shipped with win8?

I tried BumpTop a while back. I never really liked it for it was buggy, but this was when tit first came out. I have not tried the newest versions.

I agree Snowcrash  WIND does look a lot like BumpTop

Again, I think GOOGLE bought it from the original developers and AFAIK it hasn't been seen nor heard of since.
Then again... :scratch-head:

I know Art  :D
I was referring to this newest version that is available http://download.cnet.com/BumpTop/3000-2072_4-10912219.html the one I tried was version 1.0ish

Sadly, the download button on that page no longer leads to the actual program. Any more these days, I just use minor tweaks, like Stardock's Fences. I've also got a couple of Windows Gadgets that I use, and I'm seriously considering converting one of the three monitor areas into a full time tabbed browser that's built right into the desktop, rather than as a maximized window (that way, nothing can hide behind it), but I'm just not up to that sort of effort quite yet. :) Used to get that same type of functionality with Windows 98/XP's Active Desktop feature, but it's no longer available, AFAIK. Shame, really. If you could design a web page with the functionality you wanted, you could just embed it into your desktop. Fun stuff! :)

Sorry Dave that was a typo, it should of read "was available" not 'is available."

I use Stardock's ObjectDock on my laptop, and I use to use there windowsBlinds. On my  desktop I now use Okozo with my own theme and RainMeter with a custom download  theme, I only have them on once in a while though.

This is to go onsale in the USA in 2013 for approx $30-40k. But oh what fun.
