Yeah I am never sure about the speed tests.  I tend to use just the one my ISP provides.  Even if it is not accurate all the time at least it gives you a rough idea percentage-wise.

I find it's a bit slower in the evenings here but not so much that it affects my browsing performance.

Using speedtest my download speed from Dallas was about 5Mbs and it's early evening now.   Still fast for most purposes.  A UK one would be about 14Mbs or maybe 10Mbs at this time of day.

Funnily enough, just as I was typing that message above, British Telecom phoned me (happens every 3 months or so) to try to convince me they have a great deal just waiting for me to snap up.

As usual they go through each bit and I say, "yes I have already got that for cheaper" about seven or eight times.  Until finally they have to give up because there is no way they can beat Talk Talk in my area.  They're not even trying lol !

Snowcrash

My dad is on Talk Talk and has a similar problem with BT calling.

I think his line is "my internet is for free, can you beat that?"

You can request to be taken off of their (BT's) sales list. Or report them to their self for a nuisance call.  ;D

LOL Snowy ;D

Last time I check ISP prices BT was the most expensive of all, one of my customers was on BT but was getting awful speeds, BT said there was a fault on the line but refused to repair the problem saying the phone line is for the phone and that was working fine.

They left BT and went to Virgin media, now they have fast Internet and cheaper phone calls.

If Virgin are among the best then BT are among the worst.

Yep the broadband is bundled free for me too and it's very fast as they upgraded their equipment months back.  BT have a really bad reputation for poor connections in my area and they are one to avoid.  There is no way I would move to them at the moment.

They still do that really old trick of saying something like "Get phone and broadband for just £15 per month" but fail to point out you have to pay another £14.00 or so on line rental, they bury it in the small print.  Come on BT we worked that one out years ago !

BT really need to sort their act and service out big time.

Data

Its going to take them a long time to get all the cables laid, I remember it took the cable company a few years to get my area done and surely BT will have to start digging up the pavement and roads to lay their cables.

Virgin will have 2GB by the time BT get 1GB lol.

Interestingly I got an e-mail today from Virgin media offering me 100Mb, super-fast but I think I will stick with the 20, unless they offer it to me for free. :-*

Snowcrash

Finally we get 10 year old LAN speeds. Speaking of which, I was thinking of upgrading my LAN to 1Gb. All I need is a Gb switch and NAS drive.
BT has installed a new, large green box at the top of my road. Their service is called BT Infinity. So rather than upto 8Mb etc it'll be upto infinity I guess. Either that or they're not commiting to a time scale. LOL  :o ;D

I've only just got that joke, lol.

Data

I got an e-mail from Virgin today saying that they have just increased our up-load speed.

I posted about this in November last year, they have finally caught up with themselves, remember you heard it here first, almost 3 months ago. ;D

Data

Virgin media are staying ahead of the game, we now have the possibility of 100Mb speed, if you want to pay for it that is.

Interestingly a twist, they are getting rid of the 20Mb service and replacing it with a 30Mb one, I cant believe it really, they just keep giving me faster speeds.
