I noticed that the forums seem to be a bit on the slow side, so I thought I'd let you all know what's going on with me. Sadly, though, there's really nothing to tell, so how about an infantile video, instead?
warning! 'foul' language and mildly sexual themes (though NOT intentional):

Thanks for the giving my dose of early morning humor :) great video
Great vid Dave, the last guy's reaction as he came back on air was priceless :D
Thanks Dave, that was a good chuckle
It was my pleasure to help bring a bit of humor into all our lives. :)
Another vid (though not as funny):
Accident Recovery - Progress Report (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McHW4advaUg#)
I've also posted some pics to my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/dave.morton.3950), if anyone is interested.
Absolutely great to see you up and about Dave, your one tough old Bird. It's clearly evident you got busted up real bad just glad to see you made it. :D Now I'm not a religous person but, this time, I do Thank God.
I think I have friends who've had your injuries but like 5 people. Meaning you have 5 peoples worth of injuries.
ACL is a bastard on its own. Let alone the rest. That's the front tendon if my memory serves.
Good to see you up and about. Take it easy and 1 step at a time. Wishing you all the best.
The first thing I noticed was the loss of weight Dave, you can tell just by looking at you that you have had a hard time.
I think we all knew that you were in a bad way but we didn't quite know just how bad, the video really brings that home.
On the up side, its good to see you my friend :) and over time I reckon you will recover to almost 100%, maybe to 95% with a few little aches and pains, you might have to give up running the marathons ;)
And didn't the doctors do well, they get a thumbs up from me and thanks for mending our buddy
Now plenty of rest and good food has to be the order of the day.
All the best to you Dave and thanks for making the video.
Dave you poor guy I don't know what to say to be honest, just that you look after your self and don't worry about things until you are all well and healed up. WE've met a great friend in you and I am really glad we did not lose you but it pains me to see you like this. You take good care of yourself now and I hope the aches and pains begin to ease themselves. It sounds like you have some great doctors and nurses looking after you there.
Peace :)
Thanks for the update, Dave. I think your unfortunate incident also serves as a constant reminder of how very frail and valuable life actually is! We all must not take anything for granted, especially our health.
We are given one day at a time and yet, tomorrow is promised to no one.
Keeping you in my thoughts, my friend and wishing you all the best!
- Art -
sorry I have not been on for a couple days, and did not see this update till today. Thanks for the video update Dave  I knew you was banged up pretty bad, but I did not think it was that severe. You are one lucky guy, Thank God :)
You got a lot of healing to do, take your time so heal up good and well. Data gave some excellent advise about eating good food, I saw you with a can of what looked like soda......fruit juice would be a lot better for ya atm Hint Hint ;)
Great to know your healing and getting better, But at the same time Sorry to see your in much pain. I hope it eases up soon for ya.
If there is anything I can do for ya, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks, Syber. Yeah, I know the soda (it WAS a diet, though) wasn't the wisest choice, but I try really hard to limit them to 3-4 per week. I'm getting to where I can stand up more and more, and I expect to be walking in fairly short order. The arms are still holding me back, but I don't want to cause any permanent damage, so I'm not pushing them all that hard. :)
I remember being bed bound for 9 months, after my car crash. I looked like Olive Oyl from the cartoon Popeye. It was a long and painful recovery I had to constant remind myself that it will okay to keep my faith and keep me striving forward. A few Mantra's assisted me with that, Maybe one or more can assist you also.
The Doc said I would not be able to walk without assistance, So my first Mantra was "I'ma prove that Doctor wrong"
Yeah, it's been quite distressing to see how much my muscles have atrophied since the accident. But I know it'll all come back, eventually. It's just a matter of time. :)
I took several unaided steps yesterday! :D Granted, they were only about 6 inches each, and there were only 4 of them, but I count that as SOLID progress! WOOT!!!
Well, I have good news and some bad news. I think I'll pass along the good news first.
I went to see the Orthopedic Doctor today, including a whole new batch of X-rays. My left hip and left wrist look great, and are healing up quite well. The Doc seems to think that I should be bearing weight on my left leg within a month. I didn't have the heart to tell him I'm already walking on it, a little. :)
The "not so good" news is that my right knee has a bit more instability than the Doc would like to see, but he thinks that it will get back to normal over time.
The bad news is just that. BAD. It seems that there's a really serious problem with my right elbow, in that the soft tissues around the joint have been growing bone in a process called Heterotopic ossification. Currently, my range of motion in my right elbow is only around 5 - 10 degrees, fixed and centered at roughly 60 degrees, and the Doctor thinks that with a LOT of constant (painful) therapy that involves my forcing the elbow to bend more and then forcing it straighter, I MAY add another 15 to 20 degrees of mobility, but that it will never be able to fully straighten, or fully bend inward again. So much for my new career in Gymnastics. :(
Still in all, God is good, and I've seen the Doctors proven wrong before, so I'm going to do what I can to get my arm back to normal again, no matter what sort of pain it causes. I ain't beat yet, by golly! :)
The good news is great, happy about that :)
But the bad news.
Hmmm, well the doctors can only guess at the type of recovery you will finally make, I have heard them get it wrong so many times now, best thing you can do is to prove them wrong and get that elbow moving more than they ever thought it would.
Rooting for you Dave  (I hope that's not too much of a British expression)
Dave you poor Soul. I really do feel for you my friend. There is a bright side to this though, having smashed yourself up that bad, some form of dissadvantage will always be expected, trust me, a slightly bent arm is far better than the alternative that most people would have suffered.
Gymnastic's may be out of the equation but why don't you try Boxing as you clearly have a perminant Right Hook. :)
Get fit soon my friend.
@Data: The initial news had me rather depressed (who wouldn't feel that way?), but the more I think about it, the more 'pissed off' I'm getting, and I'll need that anger to help push past the pain. And we use the phrase 'we're rooting for you', too. :)
@Diesel: Now don't go feeling sorry for me quite yet. my friend. Even if nothing improves from this point (and I KNOW things WILL improve), I'm still FAR better off than I could have been. Right now, sympathy will only slow me down. :)
I hear you Dave.
In that case then, RIGHT, GET OFF YOUR ARSE AND SORT YOURSELF OUT. CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY THAT YOU ARE STILL ALIVE A FEW MINOR PROBLEMS ARE TO BE EXPECTED ALONG THE WAY. YOU HAVE THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO OVER COME THESE MINOR DIFFICULTIES, NOW SHOW US ALL.
Does that feel better.
Very, VERY much. Thanks. :)
Your very welcome, if you need me to shout at you again, just ask. :sign-lol: :worship:  :bounce:
Will do, Diesel. And if anyone else wants to pitch in with some "inspirational bullying", please feel free to do so. :)
"The Doc seems to think that I should be bearing weight on my left leg within a month. I didn't have the heart to tell him I'm already walking on it, a little."
Tsk...tsk....
If you don't follow procedures in changing out a car engine things won't work correctly. The same with the human body!
When your doctor tells you NOT to do something, then you should abide by his professional advice. Taking early risks like you've done can ultimately do far more harm than good (as I've been told by several medical professionals).
Do not rush the process. All things take time and will ultimately happen. Patience, my friend.
Work on Morti but no jogging just yet!!! ;)
Best!
See, that's just it, Art. The hospital gave me NO INSTRUCTIONS at all when I was discharged, so I was winging it, doing the best I could while flying blind. Now that I have something to go by, I can deal with things in a "saner" fashion. :)
Right now, I'm working and concentrating on getting my right elbow freed up as best I can. It's painful work, but I seem to be making a tiny bit of progress. :)
So I guess I should not say when the doc first told me I could place my foot on the ground, but not put any weight on it. I went outside, through down my crouches and walked through 5 inches of snow and carried fire wood through the woods :)
but hey I proved my doc wrong, I now walk without assistance :)
True one can make it worse, but I feel that one knows there limits, it is just sometimes one tries to exceed them. That is when it gets worse.
Dave, keep up the great recovery, I'm praying for ya. I'm also sure you will have more movement in that arm than what the doc says. I think he is just preparing you for the worst case scenario.
I also think that sometimes they paint a far worse picture KNOWING it will piss certain people off and inspiring them to "prove the doc wrong". Either way, I'm just going to go for it. :)
Well many years ago, in another lifetime, in a faraway location, I underwent knee surgery. I was out of work for 46 days and while I was given specific orders from my doctor to stay off the leg for at least 2-3 weeks, I decided differently.
The Mrs. was out shopping and I felt rather helpless lying about feeling sort of sorry for myself. I had a thought...(should have let it go but no...), I know, I'll do a bit of vacuuming around the living room and I'll be able to use the large, upright vacuum as sort of a cane.
After dragging it from the closet, plugging it in and firing it up, away we went...pushing a little bit...hopping on my good leg a bit...repeat as necessary...pushing and hopping to keep up. Things were difficult but I was making some headway until I rounded the corner of a table and temporarily lost balance. Doing the only thing my subconscious mind thought to do, I promptly put weight on my bad (recently operated on) leg!
Ten thousand needles shot from my foot through my knee toward my hip in the most excruciating fashion I could imagine! I screamed!! Suddenly the vacuum rolled away from my and my temporary "cane" now equipped with rollers, skated away from me in a most hurried fashion, leaving me to put the rest of my weight on, yes friends, my bad leg once more.
No cane for support as I desperately clutched onto the now useless handle until we both crashed to the floor. Believe me, the carpet wasn't nearly as soft nor as thick when a 265 pound man crashed down on it like a falling oak tree!
WHAM!! I cried in agony as I hit the floor, the vacuum not being very forgiving, promptly landed on top of me!
My leg was on fire from toes to hip, knee throbbing, vacuum still running because it had, yes, a foot switch. At this point it was sucking at nothing and I sucked at both taking air and at vacuuming! Suddenly the front door opened and there with both arms loaded with groceries, was my spouse. No...I did not get sympathy...I got glaring looks and her head twisting in a back and forth motion side to side...quietly saying, Didn't the Doctor tell you to stay off of your leg? See what happens when you don't listen?! And all those other painful sayings one normally says to a 5 year old child.
Yes, friends...been there...made one of the first T-shirts and this was back in the early 1970's.... Ya live and learn!
True story....
No, I've been really behaving myself (for the most part), since I've seen, first hand, what happens when you blow off the doctor's or therapist's instructions.
Which reminds me; today I had my first "official" visit from a physical therapist since my hospital stay, and he introduced me to a whole new set of exercises to help me regain some mobility in my right arm and my knee. Sadly, he also introduced me to an entirely new GALAXY of pain and discomfort! :o I have one of those gut feelings that I'm going to learn first to hate the guy (though he's a really nice man), and then love him (like a brother!) once I get to some semblance of "normal". :) But I think it's going to be a bit rough, at first.
Good news that Dave, not the pain bit though, you'll be up and about in no time. Stick with it my Friend.
Yep stick with it Dave, I am sure you will, no pain no gain they say :) I must admit I don't like the sound of the pain though ???
keep up the great work Dave, your doing great. I never liked the therapist I had, Not because he was pushy or anything like that. I did not like who he was as a person, he way too judgmental and always talked about other clients business and putting them down. Glad to hear you got a good one there :)
Ok, new progress report, but this time on Facebook!
https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=152743504865544 (https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=152743504865544)
Now you have no excuse not to "friend" me! :P
Friended !
You are looking much better now Dave, I hope they can have a Eureka moment on the arm though.
Looking good Dave, looking good. Just going by your appearance it would be hard to say that you had the accident, definite signs of improvement there be.
I guess in the future you might get an operation to improve the arm, unless they can work wonders with some physiotherapy.
Don't think I can friend you though Dave, not being on Facebook, I thought that's why we had our forums, no need for Facebook and we have full control over our community experience.
I'm gona take a lot of convincing before you get me on it.
Still very glad that you are well on the mend now my friend :)
Thanks, Freddy & Data. I feel much improved, too. :)
And Data, no worries about not wanting to do the Facebook thing. I only re-joined Facebook this time so that I can keep abreast of certain developments with a couple of chatbots, as a part of my role of moderator at chatbots.org - After all, how can I be a good moderator if I can't check out whether a supposed FB chatbot is legit or not? :) It's pretty much the same thing with Twitter, too.
Dave thanks for the update your looking great, Your even sounding a lot better :D
I sent a friends request via my websites facebook page, I don't go on my original personal facebook page due to well no need to explain you all now what I mean :)
Sorry t hear about the elbow, is there anything they can do like remove the calcium deposits/growth?
I'm surprised they did not do a radiation treatment after the repairs to stop that from happening. They did that to my hip, it was the same kind of they give to a cancer patient though.
Glad to see you where able to get up and be mobile, Oh before I forget Hakuna Matata some chicks dig scars ;)
Ok, folks! This will be my last "official" video update. The video pretty much explains why. :)
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=159599010846660 (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=159599010846660)
Enjoy! I know I enjoyed making it! :D
Ok, the walk might be a bit strange, but like you said in the video "You do strange things" :P
And now you can walk unassisted, got to be a good sign too :)
Impressed with your progress Dave, thanks for the up-date.
Me, I have some virus at the moment and am not feeling 100% :'(
Sorry to hear that you're not tip-top, Data. My thoughts are with you.
And yes, you're not the only one who's impressed. My physical therapist just wouldn't get off how well he thinks I'm doing. Got rather annoying after a few minutes. :)
Keep up the great work Dave, and hope you get better soon Data.
Way to go Dave, real good news that my friend. I don't think you should carry a tray full of drinks just yet though.
Well done matey. :waveJump:
Good to see you getting better Dave. This must be a bad patch for us all with Data now ill. I myself have been in pain for nearly two weeks now, the stomach thing came back. Been to the doctors a couple of times but nothing conclusive - currently they have me on a couple of anti-acid meds. I'm on pain killers too, which help take the edge off. It's really miserable if I am honest. It's just endless.
Ohh woe is us :(
Good to see you walking unaided Dave. Still a long road ahead but you appear to have that bloody minded spirit. Good on ya.
I'm just having self inflicted hastles. Have given up smoking. Well, week 2. Sleeping patterns are back to normal but mood swings are weird. Or is it the man-o-pause?
Well, I'm rooting for you all the way, Snowy! Quitting smoking is hard (unless you do it because of a medically induced coma!), but worth the effort. To everyone else who's feeling a bit under the weather, I'm thinking good thoughts for you. Let's ALL work on getting to a better place, shall we? :)

I don't know about you but I'm really not in a hurry to drink the Kool-Aid!! (just yet). :scratch-head: ;D
lol, not THAT sort of "better place", Art. Let's all just work on feeling better, ok? :)
By the way, I've FINALLY moved out of the "Fish Bowl", and back into my room! :waveJump:
Additionally, I've got my computer back!
http://www.geekcavecreations.com/images/CompLayout.jpg (http://www.geekcavecreations.com/images/CompLayout.jpg)
(was going to post it as an image, but that didn't work out so well)
So...is this the infamous, Geek Cave? Inquiring minds want to know! :scratch-head: ;D
As a matter of fact, it is! :D It's not much to look at, but it's comfy, and serves it's purpose. :)
Still drooling over over the 3 monitor set-up :worship:
You should have seen it when the primary monitor was actually a 32" LCD HDTV. :D
No meeing about there Dave!!!
Though it does appear your camera is drunk. Or I need new glasses. ;D
No, the camera's fine, and you probably don't need glasses. I'm still very unsteady on my feet, is all. But I expect that to pass at some point. :)
QuoteYou should have seen it when the primary monitor was actually a 32" LCD HDTV. Cheesy
I had my 32" flat panel widescreen as a second monitor for my laptop, before I got my desktop. I did not like though for some reason. Not sure why though, but now I just use the 32" in my bedroom for movies and playstation 2 games :P
I'm working on my 42" tablet but using this Axe handle as a stylus is really getting old!!! (I originally thought I could "Handle" it!) :-X
Art I have the perfect solution, well maybe no perfect :P
Wacom Intuos4 pen tablet
