Weirdly, I have been listening to Peter Gabriel lately, inc. this one. And cool PF tracks too.
One of the other classics...

Dave it's to do with the URL you use to embed the video, if you remove the "s" then you still get the link/title.
Been going through my music library and blasted this song out, still as good today as it's always been, this is the newer mix version.

Not bad, preferred the second one. First one reminds me of Utah Saints back in the day. Not necessarily a bad thing, just kind of out of place now. Maybe I am just getting old.
Heard this on the radio (BBC radio 2) and I like, got my foot tapping.

One of the few non silly Eminem songs I like. I wonder how much of that song is true.
Still sounds better with the swearing in.
Yes good song, sorry about posting the censored version, it's lame. Apparently he became more sombre when his friend died. A talented word-smith all the same.

That one is sort of like a train wreck; horrifying to watch, but you just can't seem to look away. ;)
Good tunes. Except Dave's one. I think they were higher than the moon. :D
When that one came out I was living with a mate of mine named Adam. That song drove him mad whenever I would play it, but his girlfriend loved it (and she was extremely cute) so playing it sort of killed 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. :D {insert evil laugh here}
Made me chuckle too, nice to have something silly now and again

They do seem to be getting better music, but I wonder if some of them are using tracks without respecting copyright. Just sayin'... :P
Not just me then :)
I think YouTube have some policy that deals with copyright but I might be wrong.
I once heard that there is a policy whereby artists can opt to leave a track online and then chose to gain advertising royalties on it.
Been hearing this on the radio and it kind of grew on me, the video isn't bad either.

RIP Prince, outstanding musician.
Here in the states, the news networks have been inundating their listeners with Prince songs for nearly 24 hours straight (or so it seems), and I swear that I've heard people reporting all sorts of odd things about his death. I've even heard 3 different news reports giving three different ages, from 49 to 53 to 57 years old. I pray to god that the zombie apocalypse comes, with Prince at the vanguard, to eat the brains of all those stupid gits who can't get their facts straight.

XTC - Making Plans For Nigel

Around the same time there was this, nice piano, among other things :D

Yes in truth I can't listen to the full nearly ten minutes of Born Slippy, I mainly like the beginning part.
Nice piano in that one you posted I agree. Was some good dance tunes around then.
I'm going back to the 80s and XTC with my other favourite (inc the last 2)

Great song, amazing how long ago that was. They had an album called Oranges & Lemons which I remember from when I first lived in London.
Don't know if anyone else likes Jimi, but this is one of my favourite songs and a good summer tune I think. Just don't go on holiday by mistake ! Points for the reference I just made and the link to this song. :D

While I'm here, I stumbled across this, ok I admit it, I like Ribena :D

QuoteYour puzzle however has got me
It was a bit obscure in truth. It's a quote from the film
Withnail & I with Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann. There is a funny encounter where Withnail (Grant) declares that they have come on holiday by mistake. The link is that when they start their holiday they career out of London on the motorway blaring
All Along The Watch Tower out of their clapped out Jag.
I've moved from Ribena to Vimto :D

Data, Day Dream In Blue reminded me of this track...

Yes those two tracks are very similar aren't they, as well as the same bass lines they both have the fake record crackles and pops. Some nice guitar work in Fade Into You I thought too.
Here is a good vid I came across the other day, I like Ultravox and the video goes well with the tune.

It's been a while since I offered anything up here, so I reckon it's time I did so. In fact, how about a couple? First, some old-time country music from back in the 80's:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc0ReziWL7E
Then, as I was listening, the fiddle part toward the end made me want to listen to some Lindsey Stirling, so here's a good one from her:

This one was really fun, and the first time I'd seen it, so that's all the more reason to share. :D
I liked Lindsey Stirling, she grows on me and I enjoyed the video

Thought Snowy might like this or at least find it interesting. As Steven Rothery from Marillion says in the comments...
Quote
To really understand this video you need some background. This was at a Marillion weekend convention and was completely spontaneous. My good friend Matt Prior started playing the intro acoustic riff and I joined in. You can see Mark Kelly trying to explain the vocals to Steve Hogarth who wasn't really familiar with the song. When the crowd started singing he shrugs his shoulders and walks off. Pete, Ian and Mark (who was a bit vague with the chords) then also join in. It shows what an amazing audience we have!?

Came across this today via the YT auto play - which I find a good way to find new music with no effort. Seems to end up with Bon Jovi eventually whatever the genre  - otherwise a nice addition.

I think this is something special. Without doubt a fantastic drummer is Caroline Corr. :worship:
I've had a drum kit and I know she must be super fit, because that would have broken my back. Easy to miss how much work a drummer puts into a group and song. I think this video shows how great she is. Best viewed full screen.

I thought the FreakShow vid was more post apocalyptic. Not the vision I had of the song from the radio.
Both have new albums out. Ghost Poet's is Dark Days and Canapés (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Days-Canapes-Ghostpoet/dp/B072KM48PQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1504890955&sr=1-1&keywords=dark+days+and+canapes), Gary Numan's is Savage (Songs from a Broken World) (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Savage-Songs-Broken-World-Numan/dp/B073R6ST9M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504890919&sr=8-1&keywords=Savage+%28Songs+from+a+Broken+World%29)
I've been listening to more of the tracks from Gary Numan's album, that man has become God of the synths, I think I might just buy it, it's good and about time I purchased a new album.
This is excellent.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItYaWgCUx7M
I went through a few songs, some I liked and some I didn't care for, my tastes seem to be similar to Data's. Gray Numan seemed like he was the most popular which I also thought was pretty good.
The excellent reminds me of something I've heard sung by a different person, this was not as good as what I'd heard earlier. She is a good looking girl, very nice voice.
Carl2
Carl please feel free to post some of your favorite songs, you are right too, it's a cover of Chris Isaak - Wicked Game.
The band is called London Grammar and the vocalist is Hannah Reid, she seems to have an amazing voice to my ears.
Here is the original:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D3Nl1GZzuw
I must admit I didn't like her voice that much either, much prefer Isaak's version.
Nice that you are showing this topic some love though :)
I look through you tube and came across Isaak's version, guess I was thinking of a female singer ad didn't realize it was him. Lots of people sang the song. Not sure if it's the words, music or what but it gets your attention. Favorite singer would be Ray Charles but he is gone. I noticed there are no longer horns in the music.

It's FLASHBACK FRIDAY!!!!! time for something fun from the 80's :D

WARNING There are brief images of... well, let's just say this one is borderline NSFW. :P
Never heard the first one but cool version of Turning Japanese by the gorgeous Kirsten :P
Great tunes Dave 8)
I don't recall that first one either, maybe it did not make it across here.
Well if you enjoyed the video I'm glad I could introduce you to something "new". :)
I think I'm turning Japanese too
They make rubbery lovely cars :hats-off:
Regarding the original song, these days it seems to make more sense than ever before, why ? because it was by the The Vapors :D
In the end it seems everything links in one way or another :eeeek:
A new song to me also, nice shade of blue in her hair.
Carl2
These look pretty amazing on a big screen if you feel like being entranced for a while.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H2PHX2rYFY&t=1210s
Pretty long but how is the video generated?
Carl2
Yes very long, I don't think I'd watch it for that long, I just had it on while I was relaxing for a while. But to answer your question, it's this :

Blast from the past. Best selling 12" of all time.

A absolute classic Freddy, I believe I had the 12 inch too.
Here is an interesting version of the track, a modern recording using old instruments, pretty good too.

I really like that version of Blue Monday, Data. Good find.
Yeah I had heard that one before and enjoyed it too

Freddy, Always the Sun, one of my favorite Stranglers songs now
Dave, thanks for that video, now I feel all ready for the future :D
Talking of the future did you guys study the Fallout 4 hand book, "What to do when the bombs drop" I did for 1200 hours :o, here is a quick reminder.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVC4slehaXI ;D
Since I stated playing LOTRO via Steam I've done 800 hours, but it's much more than that as I first stepped into Middle Earth over ten years ago. My game time is in the order of months not hours :o
We have an annual winter festival with snowy region and quests, outfits and special things. People are riding around on white stags and throwing snowballs at each other. ;D

Here we are then, this is the song that will see the UK not win Eurovision 2018.
I'm thinking the Nazi salute should go down well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLGEx2x8xoo
Why don't we just get the Pet Shop Boys to do something - or is it still only for amateurs ?
It's okay, but that's the last time I will hear it probably. Thought I heard a bit of auto tune in there too.
The salute thing was funny mate
The salute thing is a little uncharitable but funny. Wishy washy song with wishy washy lyrics, could do well (not). What about Gary Numan? He's had some good ones lately.
Here's a song I like atm. I believe David Byrne is touring with this soon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euEgyXoOonk
I liked that
And yes I've seen Gary Numan has some new tunes, but haven't listened to any yet.
Chemical Brothers anyone ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5FyfQDO5g0
I know the tune, don't think I've ever seen he vid. Both cool.

Fond memories of this :)

Talking of cars, blast this out from your Leaf, just to let the public know you are coming, Data top tip

That would certainly do the trick
How about a (the) cool dude dancing ?

And back to the Chemical Brothers. Keep hearing this one on the O2 advert.

Something slightly different. This is the song you get at the end of the game Portal.
I've not played the game, but a girl I know streams herself playing it and I watched a few of those sessions - looked like a lot of fun and an original idea for a game.
This song I found very catchy :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI
I've got both Portal and Portal 2 on Steam. Fun games, really. I think you might enjoy playing them, Freddy. :)
The Portal song is a bit weird and cute at the same time, how did they pull that off, I like it though :)
This one is just weird but has a really catchy guitar riff, first heard it in the game Juiced.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSv3Oez4O-4
I like that, sort of reminds me of some Prodigy and a little KLF 8)
@Dave, yes I think the first one is on my wish list, I haven't played games for a few weeks at the moment though.
Not sure what made me think about think about this song, maybe something about there will be a blue moon coming.

There was a time where they would make the musical instrument sound like a voice but I can't think of a name at this time. Latter in years Stevie Wonder invented a computer device that could sound like any instrument.
Carl2
Another nice one and one I have not heard before. I like a lot of the instrumentals from this period - very uplifting :)
Nice change of style there Carl
Here are some more Tom Tom Club, a woman on bass and a catchy little tune.

Don't know if you guys like Happy Mondays. The best "Madchester" band for me, closely followed by The Stone Roses. Photo finish.
Ryder I don't think liked the Madchester thing and I always found it a bit corny. Never saw them live but a few years later I saw Black Grape somewhere in London, who knows where, but it was basically the Mondays revamped including Bez - who I swear looked at me at one stage.
Anyway, here's a choon from the Mondays :

Continuing with my up beat theme...
I was in a pub with this band somewhere in Cork, Ireland. Cork had a little indie thing happening there for a while. My girlfriend's sister had a record shop and we used to hang out there back in the 90s, so they knew the band through that too.

More my thing but not available until September.

In the previous posting of this song Dave had a great story:
Quote from: DaveMorton on February 25, 2013, 19:02:11 PM
Interesting side note: When I was a child, I lived in eastern Oregon, and one of my Dad's many jobs was to deliver propane to various places, and one of those places was the location where they filmed Paint Your Wagon (where that video came from). One day, some old, crotchety, filthy "hippie" (according to my Dad, at least), who accepted the delivery of propane and signed the receipt. Later on, he found out that the receipt had been signed by none other than Lee Marvin. So my Dad got his autograph, and couldn't keep it. :)
Good to hear WaltzInBlack and Paint Your Wagon is epic, though not seen it in ages.
Heard this on the radio, looks like The Prodigy are around again.

Can see that going down well live. Prodigy, a band I wish I had seen back in the day, no idea why we didn't get around to them. 8)

I know you like Ian Brown (as do I) and that is his new effort. As for "shitty flute", even a mother would hate their child for making that racket.
I do yes, I remembered you did too. The older he gets the angrier he appears :D
It's not as good as something like F.E.A.R. that you introduced me to and some of his other more recent stuff, but it's an alright tune I think.
Always liked this:

I love OMD. They had a few popular songs, back in the day here. This wasn't one of them, however, but I like it. :)
Good pick Freddy, I love OMD too, got lots of their tunes in the Leaf.
The flute reminded me of Jethro Tull whom I like

Ohh Jethro Tull - now that's a blast from my youth - I used to listen to Aqualung and Thick as a Brick albums a lot, my brother had a big record collection. Good if you want something a bit different 8)
Bungle in the Jungle was my favorite. Aqualung just made me feel dirty, for some reason. :P
Jethro was able to sing things just not sung which may have attracted some rebellious youth, myself included.

I'm surprised this one wasn't a hit in the USA. It was over here and the Enola Gay they're referencing is the name of the aircraft that dropped the bomb (little boy) on Hiroshima.
Hence the lines... "Enola gay, mother is proud of little boy today. Oho, this kiss you give, it's never ever gonna fade away"

Agreed Freddy.
Here is something a little bit different.

The 1st is a good dance tune with loads of dancers (are you the perve or is it just me?)
Not heard that version of a Kraftwerk classic. Not wonderful production and the vid was posted in 2008, not sure when it was made.
So this post requires the original, for Carl2's sake and my nostalgia.

My logic says that the plants came first, they gave the animals oxygen and food.
Had this song in my head today:

There's organisms that are sort of half plant and half animal - so maybe it was a bit of both.

Listen to Kraftwerk a lot in the car, good driving music.

Well the last two vids do nothing for me, makes me think of the train background songs sung ages ago. Music is changing and I'm left with memories of songs I liked. I've been getting Alexa to play a list of relaxing music and find comedies for TV plus this gets rid of all the advertising.
Carl2
Maybe you will enjoy something more upbeat Carl:

Good singing, nice selection of musical instruments, I wish the band luck. Thanks for putting it in.
Carl2
Yay ;D
Music is a funny thing.
Data, that Kraftwerk is one I have not heard before, enjoyed that 8)
Going back a few good years we had this tune from 1984.

An okay band, the skin peeling was a bit strange.
Carl2
The Stranglers okay? I've seen 'em 5 times, they're brill. ;D
I've heard this latest offering from The Chemical Brothers but wasn't expecting the video.

Freddy thanks for posting Skin Deep :)
Snowy that last video was quite unexpected, enjoyed it though.
I'm gona post something else from the German masters :D

I think The Stranglers are a class act too, although I never saw them live.
When I was sorting through my junk the other day I found a load of ticket stubs from various bands, some I don't recall attending so those must have been good ones
Time for some sunny day songs, how about this:

Cyboogie, yeah quite like it, instantly reminded me of this.

Yes reminded me of Goldfrapp too ;D
Very nice voice gets a little lost in the music, bit strange video.
Carl2
Not heard the Cyboogie one before but I see the Goldfrapp reference.
My fav tune ATM is this one. The Specials have a new album out. As political as ever.

Still a very good band it seems Snowy 8)
How about a country singer and a punk singer covering a reggae artist's song.
Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer and Bob Marley respectively. 8)

Thank you for sharing! For some reason I forgot about this song. But today I turned it on an full in my property in Cyprus https://tranio. com/cyprus/ and just enjoyed it with my friends.
Can't remember if I posted this recently, but it's a good relaxing Summer song, so here you go.

Quite liked that Carl. I remember when they were about but never listened to them much apart from when seeing them on MTV.
Not posted here for a while. Heard this on the radio and quite like it.

Nice to hear a song that's easy to understand.
I sometimes wonder why I like songs that are difficult to understand but came across an article on the internet that states the American FBI spent about a years time investigating the Kingsmen Louie Louie song, they played it at different speeds and all, wrote a 120 page report and stated they were unable to understand all the words. It became a big hit back in it's day so I guess I'm not the only one that likes that type of song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RZJ4ESU52U
Carl2
All they needed was Google
It was a popular song over here too, still hear it in movies sometimes.
QuoteLouie Louie, oh no, you take me where ya gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby
Louie Louie, oh baby, take me where ya gotta go
A fine little girl, she waits for me
Me catch the ship across the sea
Me sailed the ship all alone
Me never think I'll make it home
Louie Louie, oh no no no, me gotta go, oh no
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go
Three nights and days I sailed the sea
Me think of girl constantly
On the ship, I dream she there
I smell the rose in her hair
Louie Louie, oh no, me gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go
Okay, let's give it to 'em right now
Me see
Me see Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long me see me love
Me take her in my arms and then
I tell her I'll never leave again
Louie Louie, oh no, me gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go
I said me gotta go now
Let's hustle on out of here
Let's go
I never realized it but the Kingsmen are country gospel singers.
Carl2
the music is good.
Attended a Madness concert once, while still in my flat. Finsbury Park in North London, I used to live near the park. Madness were so loud I didn't have to regret not having bought a ticket.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwIe_sjKeAY
Did anyone like these moody fellows?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKRJfIPiJGY
Oh yes, me and Snowy were in to Bauhaus, I still listen to them, the band turned in to Tones On Tail and then Love and Rockets, got all their albums :)
I used to think they were the coolest band around. Pete Murphy did some solo stuff too that's good as well. A striking looking person in the same kind of way as Bowie was.
I have a song of his on one of my playlists, I'll try to find it tomorrow.
Found it :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrfFHzqGBZI
Ahh yeah Pete Murphy, he used to be in an advert for cassette tapes back in the day as well, yes I know that song :)
He also made an album (The Waking Hour) with Mick Karn from the band Japan, it's an album with a difference for sure, here is one of the tracks from it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxBzKAL0_yQ
Interesting song, he's done a lot of styles of music.
This is the advert, once you mentioned it I remembered it too.

It's nice
I was listening to old 1920s songs to get me into the mood for making my game. A lot of those old tunes are public domain now, so I might be using a few of them in the game.
Glad you like it mate :)
Here is another, the video should start at the place I marked, the song is call "The Old ships Boiler"
EDIT:
I just noticed that the video isn't starting from the place I wanted it to, skip it to 11 mins

I liked it, reminds very much me of The Levellers.
@Carl, I like that song too, she's more 30s to 50s than 1920s. Doesn't change the fact that she is pure class. :)
I listened to a few songs by the Levellers, not bad. Anyways on Billy Holiday I heard somewhere she was hooked on drugs as many singers are, can't take away the fact that she has a great voice.
Carl2
Taken quite an folky tip. I couldn't play the Billy Holiday one so here it is again.

Kind of you to say Carl :)
This is on todays internet. Trump never understood windmills, he has studied them but never been able to understand them. They are made in Germany and China but almost none are made here.
A windmill will kill many bald eagles, after a certain number they make you turn the windmill off. Yet if you killed one they put you in jail.

Funny old laws. When I went fishing with Dave he said there was a law back in the US that said you couldn't use ground bait - it had a jail term.

One thing I would say about U2 is their lyrics are deep and meaningful
Well really a shouter but over all pretty good. Well I came across Jerry Lee Lewis while watching a Movie on tv where the main actor was a fan of him and sang parts of his songs. So Jerry was popular years ago and music has changed so much since that time. Hope you enjoy it.

I reckon the Professor is part inspired by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band ;D
Neil Innes, the singer, worked a lot with Eric Idle and was in the Beatles spoof group called The Ruttles. I think he worked on the songs for Monty Python too. I've seen interviews of him and he always came across as a nice, talented chap. He passed away recently sadly.

Elon and Grimes have given the baby a name "X Æ A-12", rather unusual I'd say
Tesla shares are up 86% so far this year, which means CEO Elon Musk just qualified for stock options worth more than $700 million. Grimes is also very rich.
Carl2
How, exactly, do you pronounce that name? I assume they want their child bullied at school.
Why not something simple like Sue. Didn't do Johnny Cash no problem. :D
Speaking of which...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ3tFPTUhAE
I've always liked Johnny Cash and Boy Named Sue was a good song. On Elons son the only somewhat logical conclusion I could come up with is they want to give him a somewhat unique name but don't want to say what it is because so many other couples would want to use that name. Both Elon and Grimes have so much money they could buy an island and start there own country, they would have people come in to teach the children.
Carl2
There has been another death in the music industry, Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk aged 73.

Desmond Dekker came to Brighton, many years ago now, I went to the concert, good times.

Wow I like the song, I remember listening to it a few times on You Tube and thought I posted it. Unique voice that I liked. Johnny Cash a boy named Sue also very good.
Carl2
I like that Cash song too Carl. Troubled life he had, a lot caused by himself, but thinking of him as a musician I still admire him. There was a good Columbo (Peter Falk) with Johnny Cash in it once. I liked the movie they made a few years back about his life, Ring Of Fire I think it was called.
Something different...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I
That guy (Izzy), was a pretty famous Hawaiian singer with a really soothing voice. He was unfortunately very heavy and that may have contributed to his early demise.
I played that song one time for my wife and she loved it. Now and then she will ask Google Home to play Over the Rainbow and it will usually include this song in the mix!

It still seems difficult to get weed seeds sent to you and the flowers you can buy have the seeds removed. I was able to find a favorite from that time period and spent a bit of time listening to other music.
So here is the music I chose

Sweet tune, sweet choice
He wrote that to apologise to his wife for forgetting her birthday or something - least that's what I have read.
I just found this gem from OMD - some nice synth and bass 8)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcIs6e2om4M
Very nice music that I liked, kind of relaxing.
A few days ago for some reason I thought of Bob Dillon and had to listen to some of his music, he plays many instruments really kind of a poet.

Carl2
Freddy, I enjoyed the OMD gem
Carl, that tune seems very fitting at this time, somethings don't seem to age much :)
My offering today is my favourite tune from the good professor, I know I've posted it before but it's meaning is spot on I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFL5GTKwonQ
Good video, for some reason it made me think of young people doing things to be grown ups like shaving, drinking driving smoking and all that.
Carl2
Cool song from the professor - it grows on you 8)
I like Bob Dylan too - that particular song I prefer the cover by Hendrix.
Here's a Dylan song I have been listening a lot to lately:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpZvg_FjL3Q
Yes another good one from Dylan, one of the things I like about him is he tells a story instead of using the same line over and over. Lots of "his " (I think he was the original writer) were sung by other people.
Carl2
I find Bob Dylan and Prince I prefer as song writers rather than artists. They both had very prolific song writing careers but the covers and written for other people are their best works. In my opinion.
Both good story tellers too. Here's a prince one...

Glad you liked it Carl, if you didn't already know it's the closing song for the final Lord of the Rings movie.
Good find Freddy! That really was a lovely song! Ms. Lennox does have a great voice!
Just stumbled across this sort of hauntingly nice song from The Hobbit...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DHecFcDhbw
Nice, very calming
I think the Dwarves sing that song in the movies.
I'll say it was good music rather than a song that I don't know about. I came across a song that I always liked that is sung in many languages by many people and choose this version.

Christmas is James Bond season by tradition here. Spectre is on right now in fact.
Anyway, I think this has become my favourite Bond song - I remember it sounded great when we went to see the movie at the cinema. Really set the mood for a great movie too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeumyOzKqgI
That Snowman one was great 8)
The Skyfall tune is probably my favourite too, I find myself singing it sometimes and you're right it does set the mood to the movie really well. Great tune from Adele.
The dubstep snowman is a must for Christmas, is it me or are the modern Christmas tunes not really hitting the spot these days.
Only one I recall hearing this year was a terrible one by Rick Astley.. :o
Here's something a bit different with a positive message.

That new one from Numan I liked - very cool video too, he keeps on putting out new stuff. Makes me think of NiN a little too.
The retro one reminds me of some 90s bands like Sultans of Ping or that kind of group. I'll put that on my playlist too.
Thanks Snowy

It might be a little-known fact that the first two albums of the Monkeys were actually played by The Wrecking Crew, an extremely talented group of session musicians who provided backing for many artists and want-to-be-musicians.
They subsequently became the most requested session musicians in Los Angeles, playing behind many popular recording artists including Jan and Dean, Sonny & Cher, the Mamas and the Papas, the 5th Dimension, Frank Sinatra, and Nancy Sinatra. The musicians were sometimes used as "ghost players" on recordings credited to rock groups, such as the Byrds' debut rendition of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" (1965), the first two albums by the Monkees, and the Beach Boys' 1966 album Pet Sounds.
For more on the Wrecking Crew: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wrecking_Crew_(music)
I'd heard of The Wrecking Crew but did not know all the connections. 8)
I know that the Monkees were unhappy having everything done for them and learnt to play themselves.
One of my favourite U2 songs.

How about something composed by A.I
QuoteThe instrumentation was composed with artificial intelligence, lyrics and vocal melodies written by by Taryn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taryn_Southern).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUs6CznN8pw
I actually did enjoy that AI-based song!
That could either say something dreadful about my taste in music or encouraging for the AI's abilities.
There is always the remote chance that both of us could have a positive outcome! ;)
Yes, good song. I liked that they put some AI imagery in the video too.
I still think I would prefer to learn the guitar though, one day, one day ;D
You absolutely should!!
Buy a good but inexpensive guitar, perhaps one at second-hand store, thrift store or yard sale for cheap.
Then go online and search for guitar chords.
Learn the fingering for few chords or so, like A-minor, C, D, D-minor, G, E, A, F.
I guarantee if you just learn C, D & G you can play LOTS of songs as many songs are only based on a three-chord progression and that's it!
It's far easier than it sounds but like anything worth learning, it does take some practice.
Once you learn, it's yours forever to play, create and enjoy!
Oh it's not that I haven't started. I've had an electric guitar and a couple of acoustic - I still have an acoustic sitting in a box here.
I could do basic tunes, but it's been a while now and I would need to start all over again. I guess it's more about fitting it in timewise and being in the mood.
Found this Prodigy tribute. Made me smile...

Remember this Data, Snowy?
For Art and Carl, this is a band called The Wonder Stuff joining up with Vic Reeves a British comedian who does a few good tunes too. This would fill the dancefloor.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOlG92rb2Zg
Who could forget Vic Reeves and The Wonder Stuff, not me.
I wonder if anyone remembers this tune from 1980 by Robert Palmer, I was quite a big fan of his and had most, if not all, of his albums back in the day, sadly he died at the age of 54 but for me his music lives on.
This tune has a early synth bass line.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_SAMrDnXOE
Yes I remember that song - it's catchy and sticks in the mind - it's been years since I have heard it. I had forgotten that he had died.
Something a little mellow - I like a lot of their songs.

Maybe I'm old fashion but not what I'd call music. Really hear because I saw a young girl ridding on what she called a hover board, It goes forward backwards and different directions, not sure how it works, it is electric I'd say. So it made me think of this song In the year 2525. With all the new things coming out AI being smarter than us, robots doing work and replacing people Well what can I say.

Yeah, that was a pretty old song. So old, I remember it when it first came out!
That video was even older, taken from one of the first classic Black & White Sci-Fi films, Metropolis, released March 13, 1927.
I have a copy of that 2-1/2 hour drama and it was actually quite interesting to watch.
Then again, I am a Sci-Fi (SyFy) geek!!
Nice find Carl!
Classic dance track to a golden oldie. Both good.

Just a personal observation but I detected a definite Beatles influence in that song which I suppose, was a bit of flattery and something that seemed to be in vogue at the time.
Nice happy song nonetheless.
Yes I know what you mean, I remember thinking that when I first heard it years back.
Someone said that ELO were (are) the band that the Beatles would become, I'm not sure who said that.
Jeff Lynne did end up working with George Harrison in the Travelling Wilburys of course.

Well I just watched a video that did a review of the above video and I have to say I am stupid. The review was able to explain what Dillon was refering to in his song. At this time I think that Dillon must be pretty smart to be able to write the song since he did not have a reviewer to give him all the details to be able to write the song. At this time Dillon is pretty old stuff so it doesn't matter
I've often thought that he is one of the smartest lyricists there has ever been. 8)
Bob Dylan (Robert Zimmerman), was a great lyricist. In fact, in my opinion, he was far better at writing songs than he was singing them. To many, it was his slurry, nasally voice that helped make him unique and loved.
I think we just had a great bunch of talented artists during the 70s although many did not live to enjoy a long life. Hendrix, Joplin, Croce, Morrison, etc., passed on in the 70s.
It's a tad on the warm side today.

This was on the radio last night, loving it. Has a Cocteau Twins flavour to it, but it's not them.

Some pretty good music I have one from way back when.

No offense but it's actually quite a horrible song but often when a song is sung, little attention is paid to the lyrics or real message of a song. This is one such song.
I'll show you the Lyrics first then the message contained in the lyrics...
Oh the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And he shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old Macheath, babe
And he keeps it outta sight
You know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, though, wears ol' Macheath, babe
So there's never, never a trace of red
Now, on the side walk, ooh Sunday morning, uh huh
Lies a body just oozing life, eek
And someone's sneaking 'round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?
There's a tugboat down by the river, don't you know
Where a cement bag's just a-drooping on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten, ol' Mackie's back in town
Now did ya hear 'bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawing out all his hard earned cash
And now Macheath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done something rash?
Now, Jenny Diver, ho ho, Suky Tawdry
Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya and ol' Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Mackie's back in town
I said, Jenny Diver, woah, Suky Tawdry
Look out, Miss Lotte Lenya and ol' Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Mackie's back in town
Look out ol' Mackie is back
==============================================
This song is the a cover of the original by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weil, first performed in their 1928 anti-capitalist musical drama, The Threepenny Opera.
The song has become more famous for this Bobby Darin version. While the song has a mellow and cool sound, it is actually about a murderous rapist named Macheath from The Threepenny Opera.
The women could be prostitutes and a body is being submerged down by the river with cement bags.
Yeah, a great song...perhaps not so much...
Just goes to show ya...
I knew the thing with the lyrics Art; I almost mentioned it like you, but it was too early for my brain to go into much detail.
Here is a nice one from the Big O. :)

Thought I had posted this, but it seems not.

Here's a song by a group I discovered a few years back now. They are sisters and have a lot of good tunes. It's hard to find new music I like these days, but I like these two a lot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bxvg-mQ0RM
I like that tune Freddy, it has a feel good factor
Here is a mix of new and old instruments.

This one has a great video but probably not to everyone's taste.
Hey! You are as old as the music you listened too ;D
https://youtu.be/cvhVoJOmg0k
got to give it a like
Carl2
Thanks Carl :D
Ok! Don't try this at home kids.

Really good videos/tunes Data  8)
I liked the way the cymbal went all wobbly in that last one!
It's still hard to believe Terry Hall has gone. This popped up on YoutTube last week.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY6KMoioSog
Yes very sad about Terry Hall, he had a surprisingly flexible voice that souded great on a number of styles IMHO.
I'm going to shake it up a bit with this synth rift from 1989.

Some modular synthesis.

That's good for concentrating - I need it to last an hour
Heard this on the TV this evening and had completely forgotten about it, a real blast from the past.
OMD Genetic Engineering.

Another OMD classic - Electricity.
Check out the lyrics, nothing much has changed.

I like OMD too; there's a Facebook group I am a member of. Can send you an invite if you like.

Quite a rowdy bunch there Freddy, good to hear an old classic played live though
I've been meaning to post this for a while now, to me it's another old classic but it might be new to most people.
The lyrics mean a lot to me.
https://youtu.be/x-7DxI-56ts
I quite like them.
Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away recently, so I am posting this. It's been years since I watched the movie.

Been looking for some tunes for Pieces of Eight.

I liked that
Here's one I discovered recently via Jo Whiley on Radio 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKL4X0PZz7M
Stumbled across this, it seems to stir emotion without words, grabbed my attention.
https://youtu.be/bubOcI11sps
I'm not sure if this has been posted before just just incase here it is.
https://youtu.be/bAdqazixuRY
I don't recall it. Very cool, good song too 8)
This was on the 90s Radio 2 show last night and I didn't recall it from the time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TfqbuTBqX8
I don't remember that one either, strange little video too.
Give this one a go 8)

This is pretty iconic - a new song from The Beatles
Now and Then
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW55J2zE3N4
Yes, I watched the story on the One show and caught the first play on Radio 2 8)
Can't help thinking they could have made more effort on the video :scratch-head:

Rest in Peace Steve Wright.

Been watching a few cover videos lately, here is one of my favourite Stranglers songs and this musician nails the bass line.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW7LHNCuFIY
That was good  8)
Heard this on Jo Whiley tonight, a bit different, I like it. Some of it reminds me of The Fall, but cheerier!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6805ECeFhtw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J8TqqNJa1o
That track was by a LOTRO friend of mine. 8)
This is a 2019 song I think but I love that it's a dance track with a Sax player.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G55GspnNkBo
Enjoyed that, thanks
Heard this again recently, an emotionally charged song made more powerful by the video. A beautiful lament to the futility of war.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts
I edited your post so the video shows Snowy :)
Yes, great song still.
As the old saying goes...1.5 billion people can't be wrong!
Very fitting tune Snowy
Seeing as the fab 3 of us are back, at least for now, this tune springs to mind, seems to tie in the previous tune and our reunion at the same time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on-y9Pv-CJA
Not heard that one in a while either. Kewl tune.
Another common thread is both lead singers have died relatively recently. (2018 & 2022)
I see you lunatics and raise you a happy house
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amR6-neQBPE
Anyone remember these guys? They were very good live.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bge-YbKLnI8
Only slightly remember that one Freddy but enjoyed it
This isn't exactly a music video but I listen to quite a lot of these synth demos.
https://youtu.be/VmmelEdNfR4
Just for the nostalgia.
A foot tapping blast from the past, 1964 in colour too.
https://youtu.be/2ZUWHfI6EuE
Filmed in glorious Technicolor. :D
A female drummer too, bet that was unusual for the 60s.
Found this latest offering from The The.
It's growing on me. Not sure if it's an ear worm or a fungus 😕
https://youtu.be/Gmwkzk2bPms
Good gawd are The The still going :o
I like that, makes a lot of sense to what's going on in the world.
Used to be a big fan of The The, still listen to the old stuff now.
That new one I liked, but it was a short song.
There's a new album out in August and a couple of other tracks about a year or so ago.
Recently found a channel on YouTube that's slightly blown me away, using AI the owner is manipulating and changing the music, not sure exactly what is possible but removing vocals, instruments, extending and remixing all seem to be possible.
Here's an example.
https://youtu.be/msTQ8Bfg7MY
I listened to it for a bit, but not hearing the vocals pained me.
Clever though.
Found this new one from Bloc Party and I like it. Does have 1 rude word and a drug reference NTSW

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrbxWOMpwfs
Don't think I've ever seen that Blur video, very Clockwork Orange.
This is one of my fav chart songs atm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JUjFN9AuFU
Snowy, your taste in music seems to have changed a tad ;D
Quite enjoyed it though.
Do you remember the conversation we had about this track? The lyrics are very dark, fortunately in French
https://youtu.be/1A1XGwGWKgA
Oh the 80s ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9AbeALNVkk
Oh the 80s indeed. That one passed me by but funny though.
La Folie I know as "madness/love" but I never knew the origin of the story. Suitably "Stranglers" though.
Keeping with the jazzy dance stuff...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmOArLdg9d4
Snowy, nice, groovy :D
Came across this tune by Ultravox, like it a lot, keep going back to listen to it, has to go in here.
https://youtu.be/iu8X9O4iC40
Not heard that one before but Rise reminded me of this...

Here's a nice tune, naive to think it could ever be possible in this world but we can dream.

Yes it's a nice song - I was a big fan of The Beloved back in the early 90s but never got around to seeing them live.
Excellent tune
I'd rather dream of a Utopia in music or Star Trek as apposed to all those Dystopias out there including, at least in part, the one we live in.
If Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had some electrons to play with :D

Heard this on the radio & it made me smile. Not much musically but good anyway...

I never used to like Sade that much, but this is a nice song, which makes me appreciate her.

Did anyone else love The Stone Roses?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk5bekdJ78o
Rightly or wrongly I think most of the people I knew around 1989 were getting into the New Beat and Dance music.
Like this sweet little gem
https://youtu.be/Txq736EVa80
I liked dance, but I was mostly an Indie kid ;D
We went to Burnham Market up the road from me and saw Pink Floyd live - well sorta!
Just missed the beginning.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljiZQZHj240
Amazing guitar playing 8)
But disappointed, not a Penny-farthing in sight
Good interpretation of comfortable numb. Looses a bit, in my opinion, with the fast note shredding but far better than I could do.
It's never going to be as good as the original, but I'm glad you liked it.
I asked my sister if we could wait while I recorded it as I had you in mind ;D
I've seen Ausie and UK Floyd shows and they're pretty close to the original.
Seen the real thing too and Mr. Gilmore is the best.

Yes indeed, never seen anyone like him, then or since 8)
Another chance to post Electricity by OMD.
