I know it's a little early to start this, but I had to get away from that *^%$!@:, err sorry, damn puzzle. September will be upon us very soon and, provided nature has settled it's self by then, the Kiwi's will be hosting one of Sport's finest competitions. I shall be posting quite regular on this one, the run up, group matches, results you name it, or to coin an Idiom, The Full Nine Yards, Snowcrash. ;)
Watch this space.
I'm assuming (which is all I CAN do, being a bloody Yank, and all) that you're referring to... Er... The Rugby World Championship? Yes? No? Maybe? :D
I too, like Rugby but was wondering what this thread was about.
As long as we keep the site a wendy ball free zone, I'm happy. (that's football to the whole world except USA who call it soccer)
Absolutely Snowcrash, this thread is STRICTLY Webb Ellis. :P
Had a thought today, what about a WRC section? It's all the same letters but more world rally championship.
I shall go and sit down now. 1 thought a day is enough ???
Been watching the Wales/England friendlies over the last 2 weeks. First performance was ok but second was very lack lustre.
Hopefully they will settle down once the final world cup team is announced. I hope so anyway.
Just a quick bit of info, the 30 man World Cup Squad will be announced on Monday 22nd August.
Here is the Thirty man squad. Interesting choice, Lewis Moody as Captain.

Well, the first round of group matches are over, with none of the winning teams showing any true World Champion form. In my humble opinion, only one team has stood out from the rest showing grit and determination and has to be Wales.
Playing against the current Champions, Wales received a truly unjust loss having played the most inspired Rugby I have seen them play in many a year. If they keep playing to that form, who knows what could happen. SA 17-16 Wales
England have started their campaign as usual, doing just enough to secure a win, with no thanks to Wilkinson's boot. Time, I think, to allow young Toby Flood to shine. England 13- 9 Argentina
Scotland secured a ten point win over Romania, the latter being more used to being beaten by a phone number score. Scotland 34-24 Romania.
Ireland also made a win against the Good Old US of A. The State's ripped ten points from Ireland, a good showing. Ireland 22-10 USA.
Very early day's yet, but, for me, only two teams are in World Cup Form, the current favourites, New Zealand and Wales.
I missed the Wales match but thought the Kiwis are looking good. But they often do at this point and seem to struggle to get past the semis. You can never discount the Ausies, France and England and SA seem to be on fair form too.
I feel England are not settled with their line up and there are too many changes between games. :no-no:
I am also rooting for Namibia this year 'cos that's what I picked in the works sweep stake. Fat chance of me winning that. :-X

I see England have been found cheating by switching the ball.

Well done England, if you cant win fairly why not cheat?
Cheating is nothing more than using an unexpected resource! :P  :sign-evil-laugh: :sign-yeah-right:
Switching 1 legal ball for another legal ball is cheating but eye gouging and generally scratching and putting the other side off isn't?
Look at the facial injuries of the sides playing France or Argentina!!
Oh well. There is but one rule. Don't get caught.
England beat Scotland 16 – 12. :yahoo:
That's going to hurt the Scotts that dislike the English.
I did actually watch this match, I got to say that Scotland played out of their socks and all credit to them. They deserved to win given their level of play and sheer work rate. England looked set on a loose provided it was was below 8 points. The final result, however, could have been much different had Wilkinson started from the bench !!!.
I've said this before, let young Toby Flood step up to the plate, it is his time now, win, loose or draw. After all, Wilkinson will probably retire from international play at the end of this campaign, let the young man make his mark.
Here's the link to the knockout stage.

There's gonna be 2 northern and 2 southern teams through then.
And here's a link to the pools final results in case you missed 'em.

Unless I've been asleep for a bit and missed the quarter finals, I thought that eight teams had gone through. :scratch-head: Four Northern and four Southern hemisphere.
Who could ask for more, a true world cup final between the two hemisphere's, but who will be there.
Personally, I believe the winner of the Wales v Ireland match, although to close to call, deserve to be in the final. For me this will be the match of the tournament and one to watch with neither side giving an inch and playing with their heart and soul.
However, don't write of England just yet, historically we have managed to deliver the goods when required.
My prediction for the final?.
Ireland v New Zealand.
I see Diesel added a poll to this thread.
I voted for Wales :o

I was going to vote for France, but I didn't want to be banned from the forums. :P
Quite right too Dave :mutley:
Only GT40 will be allowed to vote for France without the risk of a ban. ;)
Well I never saw that one coming. :( Unless?, naa, not even the French could be that devious, we saved them from the Germans after all.
Hats off to the Welsh though, I did favour the Irish in this one, but, the best Welsh defence I've seen in a decade saw them off. Well done.
Funny though, how you can stop being English and become British in 80 minutes. ;)
Congrats and hats off to the Welsh Rugby team, and all who rooted for them! Well done! :waveJump:
P.S. I finally voted. {snicker!}
Ok ok ok, finally I vote too. ;D
Now you beat us you vote!
Well done France, we played rubbish in the first half and you punished us.
Allez le Bleu
My French gramma is bad, there being more than 1 person in the team it should be...
Allez les Bleu.
6 votes :o, the most popular poll so far hehe.
Found this site today, for the Rugby fanatic it's really good, for those who are wondering what this all about, here you can find out all.

Congratulations to France :)
I didn't see the game but going by the score it must have been a close match.
Like wise, I didn't see the game either. Congrats to France, GUTTED for Wales. :sign-sad: Such a shame that neither of the two teams that have worked so hard won't be in the final, Wales/Ireland, but that's the RWC for you.
So I take it we're down to France VS The Aussies? Tough call as to who I should root for. Especially since the only criteria I can use to decide is how many friends I have in each country. If I used that, though, I have far more friends in Australia than I do in France (sorry, GT), but perhaps I'll be perverse, and cheer France on. :P I'll let you know how I decide after the match. :D
Finally, it wasn't a good idea to win the previous match... ;D
I really should learn to look at the news before posting nonsense, and making an arse of myself. :)
What a Dilemma Dave, do you know any one in New Zealand ?. :sign-lol:
As a matter of fact, I do. :) From back in my old FFXI days. We used to belong to the same linkshell group, and went on many, many amazing adventures together. Fond memories, those.
Whilst you were out there Dave in FF World, you didn't happen to stumble upon the result for the final did you ?, only I'd love to shove a knicker on the winner. ;)
Well, there we have it, all over for another four years.
I got to say, as an avid Rugby Fan, there wasn't a right lot that really light my fire, other than Wales and Ireland. I thought they played some inspirational rugby and both earned the right to be in the final, if only the draw had been different ?.
Well played to France, after an indifferent showing in the six nations to become the Second best team in the world, in the same year, quite an achievement. ;D
Congratulations to the Kiwi's, after a 24 year drought they finally made it. I actually had tipped them to win in '03 and '07, got it right this time though.
England now though, need to sort a few things out. We need to stick with Martin Johnson, allow him to stamp his authority on the team, ditch some of our older players we use as a crutch and allow the younger, up and coming rugby stars, to make their mark, thus building a strong team ready for 2015.
Right, that's it then, all done and dusted, but, just before this thread is filed away in Datahpa's memory to gather dust and cobwebs for the next four years, here's a little something for you. From 2003, UB40 singing Swing Low Sweet Chariot with Video footage of that great year.
