Title: Stella the Starling
Post by: Art on March 20, 2021, 13:37:08 PM
For the majority of my life, I was under the impression that starlings were just obnoxious, opportunistic birds that most people disliked and claimed were just nuisance birds.

Having seen this video changed my perception of their ability. They are not dumb birds at all, but a talking starling? That's something else!

This is a short, 2:20 minute video but give a listen to this bird! Very cool indeed! Who would have thought?

Yes they are great mimics - I think I have watched that video before, it's very cool.

When I was a kid there used to be a starling that lived near the church yard that I would bike through when coming home - it used to do impressions of a ringing telephone - presumably one nearby.

Starlings are great birds and also notable for their amazing murmurations.

I've heard a starling mimicking the sound of a telephone before, they are amazing animals, I think birds are quite a lot more intelligent then most people give them credit for, we've all seen crows cracking quite complex puzzles on Youtube but have you seen a chicken playing piano ?

I have now  ;D

By the way it was looking under to the side sometimes I imagine they trained it by giving it a treat when it pecked the red lights.  8)

Indeed, truly ancient and fascinating aren't they, they seem to have picked up quite a lot of tricks along the way.

Bit of a coincidence but today I'm going to buy some more bird food for the birds in our back garden, the breading season is coming, they need all the food they can get.
