Found this time lapse video taken from the Very Large Telescope observatory in Chile. It goes upto 720hd too.
Enjoy :sign-peace:
VLT (Very Large Telescope) HD Timelapse Footage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFpeM3fxJoQ#ws)
I did enjoy that, the video and music 8)
Is that a lasar coming out of one of the telescopes? well I guess it is, but what is it doing Snowcrash?
It's for the adaptive optics (corrective optics?).
They use a bright star to measure the fluctuations in the atmosphere and adjust the mirrors with pnumatics to compensate (I think corrective is the software equivelent. I could have the the wrong way round :scratch-head:).
If there is no bright star they shine a laser in shot to act as the bright star.
This is done to get much clearer pictures but is hugely expensive. For us mere mortals we have corrective (from £1500) and picture stacking (free/cheap software)
Found another time lapse video at BadAstronomy (http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2011/06/03/gorgeous-milky-way-time-lapse/).
Plains Milky Way (http://vimeo.com/24551969)
This one was taken in Dakota USA (I assume). I do like the pan shots.
I like that, a lot.
Good find.
Wow, beautiful 8)
Truly awesome.

Re named the thread, seeing as more videos weren't from Chile.
And I found another one from

Found another cool time lapse video on Vimeo.
Altissimo. Changes in pace.
Altissimo. Changes in pace. A timelapse short film (http://vimeo.com/25460198)
And another old English time lapse video...
Actually it was taken at Southern Ocean Coast in Australia. ¡Enjoy!
http://vimeo.com/24253126
That was pretty cool, Snowy! :)
It's rather odd, seeing the Great Hunter upside down in the sky, in one part of the video, and in another, I recognized the SMC and the LMC, but I'm not familiar enough with southern stars to recognize any of the other brighter stars. All in all, a great find. :)
The main thing I noticed in the southern hemisphere was the Moon's shadow going the other way.
When you think about it, it makes sense but just feels weird.
Another time lapse video, this one of the recent Lunar Eclipse. Notice how the stars disappear when the Moon is at full brightness due to the camera f stop.
http://vimeo.com/25788938
Just noticed, snowy, that this video is today's APOD, too. Very nice!
Yeah, that's where I saw it but the link above goes to the HD version.
Bit of everything in this video called...
Journey through Canyons
http://vimeo.com/13888708
Filmed in Arizona and Utah.
Found another one called Tempest Milky Way.
This was all shot in central South Dakota from June-August, 2011.
Tempest Milky Way (http://vimeo.com/28040685)
That was wonderful, Snowy! Great find!
I took a look at some of Mr. Halverson's other work at http://www.dakotalapse.com (http://www.dakotalapse.com) and really enjoyed some of his other offerings, like this one:
"Orion" - motion controlled night timelapse (http://www.vimeo.com/22700617)
I hope you enjoy it, too. :)
Great films guys 8)
Found this one filmed in the west country, England.
Called the wagging pole.
The wagging pole - Night watch (http://vimeo.com/29603656)
That video is stunning, Snowy. Truly a great find; but did you chance to read the text that is posted along with it, over on the Vimeo site? It really gives a feel for what goes into these videos. I highly recommend the read. :)
I did read it and have a feel for it.
I have met several people at star parties who I know the sound of their voice but have no idea what they look like. Stuck in the middle of a field on a moonless night, not being able to see your own hand in front of you.
I have seen many ingenious ways of trying to overcome fogging of lenses and mirrors. The best ones I've seen require battery power and have their own problems.
I've still not solved the time/money problem. I used to have lots of time and no money. I now have a fair bit of money but not enough time. The only solution I can see is to win the lottery. DOH!
Landscapes: Volume Two (http://vimeo.com/29950141)
Put it in Full screen 8)
Great find, Freddy! Nice! :)
I've said before and I'll say it again, AWESOME.
The quality and scenes are just jaw droppingly gorgeous. :sign-great-job:
I had to go in and view the video on my desktop computer. :( The video came out nothing but bright green artifacture and noise on my laptop.
Some great vids there guys, really impressive.
@Dave sounds like a codec problem but not knowing what codec these vids use makes it almost impossible to trouble shoot.
Did you try turning your laptop off and on again? ;)
I rebooted, but haven't checked since then, as it's been too cold to stay outside for more than a couple of minutes at a time. I'll check again in the morning (well, later this morning. it's nearly 4AM here, and I'm headed to bed), and see if that (plus an update of Flash) took care of it.
Oddly enough, though, that video was the only one to mess up for me. Dunno.
I like this one. It not timed but on same site.
Key West by Crew West: A 5D Mark2 Underwater Video (http://vimeo.com/14602106)
To watch these Vids in full screen HD is an absolute, sheer delight. Long may they keep making them for our delectation.
Cool fishie vid, Dusky. I have fond memories of diving and there are 2 fish pond people here. (Freddy & Dave)
I've recently had to start paying for my net and I download 100 GB + a month, apparently.
I was shocked. I thought it'd be about 30-50 GB. Must be all those HD vids and youtube adding up. Not to mention games.
Wow that's a lot of video.
I am into fish yes, I have two tanks here at home. Built a pond or two as well when I had my own landscaping business. Made one for my parent's garden a long time back, still going strong. I recommend fish keeping to anyone, it's very enjoyable.
Personally, I think I would be hastily changing my encryption code on my wireless router. :o ???
Not really time lapse but good all the same.
The HD HERO2: 2x as Powerful in Every Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUEZCxBcM78#ws)
Well, the first bits were time lapse, the footage around 2:37 made up for the rest, and I agree that the vid was very cool, so I think you'll be forgiven. :D
Hehe , and thanks Dave, glad you liked it :)
Should setup a new thread for adventure sports with that vid.
Cool vid and tune and shots.
And another from Vimeo taken from Oregon.
Finding Oregon (http://vimeo.com/32852978)
An interesting short clip of a time lapse of a time lapse of a time lapse. Or what if you had 3 time lapse cameras.
Behind the scenes of Temporal Distortion (http://vimeo.com/33034561)
Found another one on Vimeo. This one has a bit of everything.
Temporal Distortion (http://vimeo.com/36684976)
Like the music too.
Thanks Snowy, stunning in full screen, the bit where the flowers pass in front almost looks 3D :shades:
Once again Snowy, truly awesome. We don't have the advantage of viewing such a busy night sky due to our constant light pollution.
That view at 3:30 in full screen, totally breath taking.
Really, really nice find. :sign-thanks:
There's loads of aircraft but did you spot the meteor? (about 55 secs) and possibly a satallite at 3:38?
I also like the way it looks like day with the moon up and the trees are purple on moonless nights.
:( it will not lad at this time, kids are using too much bandwidth :(
I will be sure to watch later on
I had to go back again to see what you had mentioned, Snowy, and I did, indeed, see the meteor (0:52-0:55, right to left, with the "trail" it left behind sort of "bunching and curling up"), and I THINK I saw the satellite (upper middle-center, moving "slowly", upper right to lower left, and blinking?)
Dakotalapse seems to be making a name for themselves in the area of time lapse video clips. I'd probably pay full price movie admission to see a couple of hours of their work.
Yes, the satellite is the flashing thing.
It'd be the body or solar panels glinting into sunlight as it rotates. That's all I can think of and I have seen them do this but it could be a UFO. ;D
This one's not as stunning but visiting Mauna Kea (mor-na kay-a i do believe) and keck is firmly on my bucket list.
It also shows what they do with a telescope in the daytime.
Keck in Motion (http://vimeo.com/36442707)
nice videos  So that's what the do in there bubbles all day :) I sure would not want to be the one cleaning those mirrors.
While it's not as stunning, Snowy, it's a fascinating look into "a day in the life", so to speak, and worthy in it's own right. :) Thanks for sharing that.
Found another one on APOD.

Good thing I noticed the spider in the preview, or I might of busted my screen trying to swat at it lol :)
Great video thanks for sharing Snowcrash
Once again Snowy, an absolutely out standing video, I really enjoy these. Nice to see some of the rig work being constructed too.
Many Thanks.
Found another one. This one has a bit of everything in it.

Well Cool that, another nice one Snowy, keep them coming. :D
Agreed. Great find, Snowy! :)
indeed another great one Snowcrash,
This is a weird one. I like it.
Flawed Symmetry of Prediction - Optical Illusion Painting and Time Lapse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dqu4hel8lY#ws)
I liked that one too, good find and yes a tad weird 8)
That one was indeed weird, To be honest I'm not sure if I liked it though.
I fear I'm in agreement with Syber. I could only play "guess the stars" once, and then only for a short section. :(
Found this one of Ireland. No stars but lovely none the less.
Between the Raindrops on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/48902785)
Very nice, Snowy, but I thought you said that was Ireland, so how could there even BE stars? :-\ :P
Great find, again thanks for sharing. my opinion much better than the last one
A bit of everything in this one. I like the ripples in the clouds.
Time-Lapse: All is Violent, All is Bright (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrZ3-jPlI8E#ws)

A most bodacious vid there Snowy :)

Landscapes: Volume 3 on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/56879439)
That was great Snowy, I see what you mean about the ice too, stunning, probably one of the best so far
That was very nice, Snowy.
Did anyone notice the "UFO" that seemed to move "backwards" against both the land and the stars, from ~2:40 to ~2:48? I thought it was fascinating. :)
I see what you mean. It's moving with the camera so I assume it's stationary in the sky.
** insert outer limits music **
Found another one. This has a bit of a lecture in it and the guy who took the photos.
I am sooo jealous. If I could have a wish come true, it would definitely be spend some time on the ISS.
