Nicolas Hamilton, the brother of the F1 driver, made his debut into Motor Sport at Brands Hatch last weekend 3rd April 2011. Competing in the Air Asia Clio Cup Championship.
Amid a hale of publicity, with Lewis on hand, Nicolas showed off his new car, complete with all his top draw sponsors logo's adorned, to the world press.
Given that Nicolas only gained his drivers license a few weeks ago and was deposited into the kitty litter by his team mate, he showed great improvement during the week-end.
Now, I'm quite aware that the BTCC is not everyone's cup of tea, but, this particular competition is rather interesting to me as I am loosely associated with the Westbourne Motorsport Team given that I work for the parent company.
If anyone would like me to post more, calenders, results, team chat, reviews etc, please let me know.
Oh, just for entertainment purposes, this nice brand new blue Ginetta was also one of ours.
Yes I saw this on the local news. Even more impressive as he is handicapped too. Well done to him :) 8)
I watch this most time. Saw the Brans meet. I'm more interested in the touring cars themselves and have rooted for Plato for many years.
Gonna attempt to get to Brans for their 2nd meet late this year. Though I said that last year and didn't make it. :-[
Good to see Nicolas Hamilton having a good time. If only I had the £70,000 to race this season. That's not sour grapes, that's jealousy. :o
Keep posting.
We used to have a board for BTCC but I got rid of it, didn't get much activity, now thinking I should have left it there just in case.
It would go nicely into the Motorsport section, what do you think?
Thank-you all for your positive responses. It would be my pleasure to continue posting on this thread.
As for whether this thread should be placed into the Motor Sport section, I leave that upto you all.
The next round at Brands is during October, please don't hold your breath Snowcrash, but there may be some comp tickets available complete with PP's. I will contact via PM later in the season to confirm one way or the other. :flag: (Maybe we could take our Shuttle and earn a few quid on the side.) ;D
Okey dokey, the second round is now "in the bag" with showings from all area's.
Jason Plato didn't have the best of races all week-end having finished 18th, DNF and 6th. Not bad considering what happened in R2. Still very early in the season, still anyone's season to win or loose.
Couple of dramatic moments for you all.
As for our boy's, no podium's this week-end after poor qualifying, but still in the points having raced hard.
Have we missed a meet?
Sure I saw Plato's car with an upsidedown 'silverline' on it's left side now.
Just so we can read it if he rolls it again ;D
The meeting at Oulton Park is now residing in the history books. With Gordon Shedden, Mat Jackson and James Plato all taking a share of the booty.
Shedden won the first from pole. Plato the second after the two Honda Civic's, of team mates Shedden and Neal, contacted on the last bend and ended up in a gravel trap, gifting Plato the win. Third taken by Mat Jackson after a reverse grid placed him on pole.
Still early in the season and the drivers championship table is as follows.
2011 Dunlop BTCC Drivers' Points after Oulton Park (round 4 of 10):
1. Matt Neal, 103pts
2. Gordon Shedden, 101
3. Mat Jackson, 96
4. James Nash, 95
5. Jason Plato, 91
6. Andrew Jordan, 88
7. Tom Chilton, 53
8. Alex MacDowall, 44
9. Robert Collard, 33
=10. Paul O'Neill & Tom Boardman, 30
As for our Clio, James Colbourne had a second and fourth respectively. Good showing James.
Young Myles in his Ginetta had a rather bad week-end, more on this later.
Doh! We posted at the same time in different threads.
Croft this week-end, I shall be posting late for this meet, shift patterns I'm afraid. :sign-sad:
Gordon 'Flash' Shedden takes the BTCC championship this year with one race in hand.
It was a wet Brands with loads of thrill and spills with Flash playing safe for a 2nd in race 2.
Matt Neal was 2nd and Plato 3rd overall. Full story here. (http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=3235)
I've always enjoyed the touring cars, I remember burning myself to a crisp on a very hot August bank holiday weekend at Brands many moons ago........in fact Snowy may well remember that little trip too :D
Indeed I do. Been trying to organise a return visit to no avail the last 2 years.
Luckily I have managed to organise a piss up in a brewery.
Maybe we can organise getting to Mondello park over here in Ireland before I move back to the UK, the BTCC does at least one round here from memory
