Oops.
Unmanned Antares rocket explodes seconds after take-off in Virginia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx1CeHFeea0#ws)
No news yet on what went wrong but I hear it was an old mothballed rocket that had been refurbished. BABlog has a article here. (http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2014/10/30/antares_explosion_we_will_continue.html)
That's an expensive firework.
I had read about this last night. How sad. One of the payloads on that rocket was the Arkyd 3 Space Telescope by Planetary Resources (that company had a kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arkydforeveryone/arkyd-a-space-telescope-for-everyone-0) that I had donated to), but they're planning to keep at it (http://www.geekwire.com/2014/planetary-resources-vows-press-ahead-rocket-explosion/). :)
The problem with using dodgy Russian rocket engines.
Getting to space is still hard. Get one thing wrong and...
Found this. No real new news but interesting.
