Breakthrough could make smartphones and laptops 1,000 times faster

Researchers at University of Pittsburgh have generated a frequency comb (a slice of spectrum) with more than 100 terahertz bandwidth, eclipsing today’s devices that operate in the gigahertz frequency region.

Now that THz frequencies can be made, this would speed up our radio networks.

There was talk of THz causing cancer in another thread. All new things seem to have this label these days. I don't know of any specific studies. I do know there are plans for THz medical scanning, the problem was generating the THz frequency cheaply.
