This photonic computer is 10X faster than NVIDIA GPUs using 90% less energy!

This light-based computer is liable to blow the doors off of the graphics industry!



The video certainly brings new (dare I say it) Light to the task of GPU speed!

The industry has been waiting a long time (in computer terms) for working photonic computing, I still think it's quite a long way off for home users.

Faster, less power, less heat, what's not to like 

I caught some news on this. Very interesting. Here's some more detail.

It seems they have a prototype product but still require development especially to interface back to silicon. Going to be high end machines for a while yet but promising. My guesstimate would be 10 years to filter to the likes of home computer graphics. Roll on 2031.
