I have never heard of this before:

50 Year anniversary ? :o Yeah how come that's the first I have heard or seen of that...very odd thing.
It's a pretty mental piece of kit thats for sure, it must be quite an experience to be onboard when it tips up like that :eeeek:
It's cool but I have a question.
Why does it go vertical, for what purpose?
I have no idea, but suspect it is something to do with the cranes mounted on board, I'll see if i can track soemthing down on it
That didn't take long ;D
It's a research vessel:

Well done, interesting thing. Says at the end : The Officer in Charge of FLIP, Tom Golfinos, has been onboard for 17 years.
Surely not without going on land during that time :o

 I never heard of it either. I smell something fishy :P
Wouldn't be much fun if you where sitting on the Head reading your paper when they decided to tip it up. Talk about "Getting Your Own Back ". ???
Am I the only one who's heard of the thing? I learned about the "flip ship" back in High school, and thought it was the coolest thing ever, at the time. :) I even went so far as to ask around how one would get a job on the ship. Hard to do back then, seeing as how the Internet was still 20 years away. :D
