How about a "Self Aware" computer? Coming soon to a world near you!

Let's hope it makes better decisions than our current rulers!

Very interesting Art, the article is written in a very negative way, personally I am not that worried about a computer becoming smarter than humans and self aware but some clearly are.

QuoteEven worse, this report says that this SyNAPSE system is showing "clear signs" of "exponential growth", which, if not stopped, could see it becoming "aware" on, or about, 21 December 2012 as it ability to function on a level far surpassing the human brain, and using less than 1,000 watts power, will be achieved.

If computers are evolving then so be it.

QuoteInstead, they integrated memory directly within its processors, wedding hardware with software in a design that more closely resembles the brain's cognitive structure
I'll take 1,000 of those please, w8 quadruple that order :D

In the words of Corporal Jones, "Don't Panic, Don't Panic". All these tales of pending Doom and Gloom does make me smile. Let's be honest, this is an astonishing piece of work and deserve all recognition but the thing must be plugged into the wall somewhere surely.

My point is, if you had an appliance that was causing mischief in your home and was threatening to burn your house down, what would you do, run for the hills, no, you would CUT THE POWER.
It WILL be fine !...

Snowcrash

Sounds like a good 'plausible deniability' for the USA government. "It wasn't us, it was the computer doing it on its own."

Will SyNAPSE rename itself to SkyNet on the 22nd Dec? Good article none the less.
