I just looked at Newegg and noticed they now have Intels core i9
7900X (3.30 GHz).  They have 5 desktop models prices start at 2,530 and go to 3,100.  They are coming with liquid cooling, SSD, 850 w PS and good graphic cards.  The first new car I bought was around those prices.

I've been following these chips on YouTube regarding benchmarks and performance, it would be easy for me to post negative comments so I'm just going to say, they run hot and are very expensive.

  I should have included the desktop computers are 10 core, the cpu sells for about 1,200.  The quad core i7-7740X Kaby lake sells for 350, it takes a LGA 2066 mother board and you may loose some features, not sure on that.  I should look at the you tube vids myself.  I'm not doing much with the computer now a days so this computer is quick enough.  I spoke to someone at Verizon and got a faster internet at a lower price.  I'm waiting to see what Intel's Coffee lake will bring.

The I7-7800X is a 6 core 140 W at 3.5 GHz for $398 looks interesting to me, maybe the 4 core at 4.3 GHz would work for me though.

The motherboards are very expensive for them CPU's.

And they will all be outdated in no time at all, like clothing used to be especially the ties and belts.  Even in the vaporizers the price drops as new models come out.

It seems you buy a computer and a few months latter they have a new one with all these improvements.

  Intel Cannon lake out the middle of Oct. Core i7-8700K 6 core 12 thread, 3.7 Ghz 4.7 Ghz boost, 95W.  new motherboards CPUs will require a new chipset (Z370) .    Maybe this is what I've been waiting for.

I think it could be, 10nm might be a sweet spot as well, they have plans to do to 7 and even 5nm but the yield might be quite low and result in many failed chips being thrown away, that could put the price of CPU's up.

Never say never but as things stand today at 10nm they are very close to the theoretical limit of how small they can make a transistor and still return reasonable yields.

Will be interesting to see just where they go from here.   

  The latest announcement says an improved 14 nm design so it didn't make it to the 10 nm yet,  They did stay with the 6 core design for i7 and i5 but i3 go to 4 cores.  The PCI is on the motherboard and not mentioned, I'd like the faster speed if it's available.

I see that CPU doesn't come with a cooler, don't forget to get one if you buy it.

Needs a larger hard drive but there are plenty of them some have larger drives.  Plenty of time.
