My screen seems to have developed a fault, it has a row of what looks like dead pixels about 3/4 ways down the screen, restarting the PC and screen doesn't help, nor does unplugging the HDMI lead and plugging it back in.
Anyone got any thoughts?
You could try a dead pixel fixer on it. It rapidly changes the colours in an attempt to kick them back into life. I have no idea if that is the problem here. I have a dead pixel that would never shift and a new one developed some months back, so maybe it's just an age defect.

Thanks for that, it didn't work but showed up an interesting thing, the dead row isn't there with a red screen but seems to be there with all other colours, weird :scratch-head:
Yes I think it depends on what part of the pixel is dead...I think they are built up of RGB light sources like the way TVs were. So it sounds like the red ones are working fine, just the others have died for some reason. I wonder why it affected them in a row though :scratch-head:
Yeah it's odd, a whole row of pixels, just noticed that they still work with yellow too, seems to be worst on darker colours, the row is just black instead of greys for example.
Oh right a WHOLE row :o I thought it was just a little bit. Well that's a bugger. Must be a component failure or something. Have you got another PC you can plug in to eliminate that being at fault...the graphics card etc..
I'm grasping at straws to be honest.
I have another screen I can try but it's not 1080 so not exactly like for like but worth a go.
I do have other computers but none of them have HDMI output and the screen is only HDMI, will have a play around and see if i can come up with anything but my gut feeling is the screen is dieing :(
Well I turned the TV back into a TV by plugging an aerial into it and the dead row is still there, it's the screen :( bugger :'(

Thanks mate, I'm not sure exactly how old it is, it's either 4 or 5 years I reckon and to be fair it is on for at least 12 hours every day, the dead row isn't too bad and I can probably get away with using it at least for a while, might have to treat myself to a new 42 inch LED backlit screen for Christmas.
I guess you got your monies worth then, considering the lifetime of a lot of electrical equipment (cough cooker cough). Hey you know what ? You should get a 4K screen :P
Had a look at 4k, it's a shame but a bit out of my price range.
Would probably end up with something like this, not too bad around £350 should do it.

Dodgy transistor or poor connection on the driver chip.
These are bastards to replace. They are embedded in the flexible circuit board that connects to the screen.
If it's a poor connection, pressure on the chip could cure it.
If it's the chip dead on that line, then replacement of the chip including the flexible circuit board is required.
Phone the guy I talked about and explain it's the red pixel line. He'll give you an honest answer. He's the one who fixed Diesel's amp.
