I need some recommendations from my friends on what ssd to get.
So much has changes since I bought my Intel 40gb ssd for over $300.00, price, controllers with toggle or Synchronous, firmware etc. etc. etc.

I have $68.oo usd but could get up to $100.oo usd but probably no more than that. My only requirements is that it is 60gig or more. for it will be a primary drive for windows8 os so it must be a stable drive as well. preferably from new egg or tiger direct.

right now my 40 gig drive only has 1.2gigs left so I need to act fast. sure I can move my index files and others to my 1tb drive but I do not want to go that route, I would rather buy a new drive and rid myself of this hassle of not having enough space.

I am a big fan of OCZ SSD's, just ordered another one today for a build I'm doing, I must have done about 10 builds with them so far. all have worked well, none have failed and all have been fast, really can't fault them at all.

This is the ones I've been using.

They normally score 7.7 to 7.8 in the WEI depending on the mobo used.

There is a 60 GIG version too but I haven't used them.

Thanks Data, would you know the difference between the agility and the vertex model for I was looking at both those 2 models and also the samsung found here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5247113&CatId=5300

The Vertex is a little bit faster at read speed giving 550mbs where as the Agility is 525mbs, who would notice an extra 25mbs in real terms?

Also bear in mind if you attach it to a SATA II you will bottle neck at 250mbs so there would be no difference between them.

The Samsung drive (on paper at least) only has a write speed of 130mbs where as the OCZ can hit 500mbs, need I say more

the ssd I have now is sata 2 I'm not sure if my machine (gateway fx6950-51) would take advantage of the sata 3 or not.

At the end of the day you wont go far wrong with any of the OCZ drives whether you use them on SATA II or III they will work well.

I will defiantly be going ocz, just not exactly sure what model or size yet. I really would like to get 120ish gig but I'll have to sweet talk wife. wish me luck   I been doing some research and ocz are heavily appraised by many. Thanks Data for pointing me to ocz

I told my wife yesterday, the Drive I wanted: the ocz vertex 4 120gig. I been patiently waiting for an answer if we could afford it or not since then, for the wife said she had to go over the bills first.

a package came in just a bit ago and my wife handed it to me and said it was a new fan for her lappy. She said she ordered it for the previous fan was she ordered was not the right one. I did not find out it was the wrong one till I took her lappy apart the other day.(her lappy is back together and working - but will need a new fan soon). okay okay so I open the package and there I saw not a fan   but yup you guessed it, a vertex 4 120 gig ssd 

She said Happy Birthday, This year you get your present 17 days early with a sweet looking smile on face Yes the smile on my face was Bigger of-course

Sorry to make this short, but I can't w8 to install this new drive. 

I just finished a build using a Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2PV mobo with AMI UEFI BIOS and of course an SSD, it's booting in to windows 7 in 5 seconds, incredibly fast boot times. 

Just wait till the customer's had it a year. It'll be back to it's old, slow boot times (~40 seconds, most likely)  before you know it.

In all honesty I don't think so, the UEFI bios with an SSD hasn't shown any signs of slowing down on the machines I have built already, they stay quick 

That's good to hear. And you know that was also meant to be vaguely sarcastic, right? ~40 seconds for a boot time is something I would be happy with, after a solid year of adding crap to my OS.

I know you were joking Dave  but it is true, we discussed UEFI bios a while back and now it's here, and it really does do what it says on the tin.

I'll be looking forward to upgrading my system all the more, then. Right now, from power on to OS boot logo, it's ~48 seconds. From OS boot logo to login screen, it's ~12 seconds, so my boot time is right around a minute, total. Considering the age of my system, that's not bad, but it's 60 seconds out of my life that I'll never get back every time I turn on my box.

BTW, that's around 20-30 seconds faster than Win 7 was.

5 seconds :O and I thought my boot of 10 seconds was fast. Looks like I need to get me a new bios as well
